Window etching
I have a client business that I sell to that does auto windshield replacements. One of the things he has been advertising lately is window etching of vehicle VIN numbers. I had my VIN etched into the four main windows recently. According to him and other things I have read, glass etching is suppose to be a deterrent to the bad guys who want to take off with your xfire.
Anyway he bought from me so I bought from him. Etching of the four windows was around $60, which is probably about what he paid for the etching kit. It turned out looking pretty good.
Since then I have noticed factory etching on some of the upscale vehicles on the road.
There is a pic in my personal gallery. You will have to supersize the picture to get a clear look at it.

glennnn, didn't realize there were still some out there who still did this. back in (if i recall correctly) the mid and late 80s, this got started. and even into the early 90s, the pennsylvania state police, for example, would pick a weekend or two and offer this for free to any driver that showed up.
all geared in attempting to discourage crime. until your posting, i hadn't thought about the subject at all in a very long time, wonder if it really does deter theft? come to think of it, its seems to have been some years since i recall PA state police offering this...any stats to share? perhaps this idea fizzled out at some point.
though I have to say, other than having it done proactively by you're home state troopers...$60 is minor for added security, but... though i can't speak for my fellow forum members, i suspect most of our babies are garage kept...or we're not in areas of high crime, or even just parked on any given street (though i could be wrong).
i guess i just believe that if someone is 'bound and determined to get it, they're gonna!' just my thoughts, bonster

new car dealers...often offer this service. this is an extra quick profit for the dealer...similar to paint protection...rust proofing...etc.
a local dealer in my area (2nd largest in the country)...ricart...was sued for hiding this charge to it's customers...sued for millions of dollars.
no thanks for me...with tinted windows the etching doesn't look so good imo.

I know they are trying to sell a product, which is what I help my clients do. I understand there is a DIY kit available and it is done free by some insurance companies and law enforcement agencies.
Just looked like some added protection for a little money. Might be some insurance value to it too.
