Default Buying out of state?

Ok, many of you have bought an XF out of state and drove it home.

But how many have bought out of state and FINANCED part of the purchase? What I am getting at: I found my Roadster with a stick, and have my car, in effect, sold. THING IS: how hard will it be to get the car financed at a bank 900 miles from my home? See, my "Roadster with a stick" is in Boston, and I am down here near Atlanta.

Is this even possible? I mean, Suntrust holds the lien on my car now, they are in PA or CT or something. But I BOUGHT the car at a dealership in this state, such will not be the case THIS time.

So, please, help me out here: anyone ever bought out of state, financed the car (with whatever down payment) and headed home to another state? My credit is, at this time, a bit better than "Excellent", but these days, the banks are being more careful than, say 5 years ago.

Mark, you can use a local bank to finance a car purchased out of state. I purchased mine from a private seller in Illinois, and had no problem. Any bank that does car loans will now how to handle the transaction. You could always call Suntrust... I am sure they would be happy to handle your purchase since you already have your current car financed with them.

I bought the coupe in Lexington KY.....I had my money together, but when I arrived....went into the F/I office to close the deal....they had cheaper money....so, I closed the deal with them....now, I know Kim knows this, but it was with the same Nat'l Bank....they cut another percentage point off...so, the deals are out there...I was dealing directly with the bank, but the dealer had better buy rate....so, like I stated before, don't tip your hand until you are in the finance office if you are paying cash, or have a lot of cash to put down...see what they have to offer first....good luck...PG....

Well, that's just it, Doc. This will be a purchase from a private seller.
The two of us have to do it all, with a bank's help. THAT is what is complicating it.

Im calling Suntrust tomorrow - they hold the loan I have on my car now. But they don't do business in Mass., which is where the car is.

(The car is 30 miles south of Boston, if anyone could go look at it for me. I'm flying up myself either this saturday or sometime next week, still working out the details. IF I like the car, and I am sure I will, I wanted to just forgo my return flight (and it's airfare) and seal the deal and drive her home!)

I"ll get insurance on it's VIN before I leave town, if I dont' buy it, I'll just call and cancel the coverage, per my agent's advice.

Mark, It doesn't matter where you buy the car, it matters where you live. Suntrust can give you a private loan & you basically are paying cash for the vehicle when you get there. 5thThird has some STUPID low rates on used cars right now. Getting a car loan is just like getting a car - shop around for the right deal. At the end of the day, no one cares where the check is cashed, only where the car is liened.

Pizza, I went through US Bank for my loan and purchased through a private seller. Its quite easy. Only problem is the seller didnt have access to a US Bank, so both my lender and seller had to overnight the Docs to eachother. If the car has a lien then ur lender will pay the seller's bank instantly. If the seller has the title then it would just take a day to get the seller the check. Goodluck. I'm driving my SRT back 3K miles come Tues.

Never thought of overnight-shipping the documents! Ok, this helps, good to know.

If he the seller doesnt have the same bank ur lender will overnight the docs to him and then get the payoff and will take care of it with his bank. It was a 2 day process for me.
