Default Engine Stalling and Not Starting

Hi,

I would really appreciate some advice if anyone knows of this 'common' problem.

I bought a crossfire coupe (2004 model 3.2 v6) about two months ago, and twice since I have owned the car, the car engine has just stopped whilst idle and driving. This happens somnetimes when im driving along normally, the other time it happened at a petrol station!

all the power from the engine goes, but all the lights and electrics work, just no engine start up????

obviously this is very dangerous as at any time the engine could cut out and then the steering is very very heavy and the brakes are very hard. i feel unsafe in the car now and want to get this problem fixed.

i have noticed this seems to be a rather common problem with crossfires, and that some people say its the fuel pump relay control module.

does anyone know of this problem, or could advise me if they have had a problem of this nature. a little more adive would be muchly appreciated.

regards lewis

Engine stalling and spoiler problems.... It may all be related. Some people here may say to try replacing the battery.

It could also be the Crankshaft Position Sensor.

I am betting if you look under the hood you have the original white battery. The first thing on your list of to do's should be to replace it. After that I would do the RCM fix, and then the CPS if needed. Your problem will be resolved if you do these things.

I would start with that first. My original battery died after the first 2 years of buying the car new. The car would not start but I still had power inside. The spoiler popped up and the electronics just started acting wierd! In my case I knew it was the battery because the car wouldn't start. I turned the key and had nothing.

I would replace it first. If it turns out that it is not the cause of the issue, you are saving yourself a lot of problems in the very near future anyway. I went to O'Reilly's here in Texas and they had a battery that worked perfect. I believe it was $89.00. It solved a host of weird electrical issues I was having.

Also, check your battery cables for corrosion. My ground cable was completely corroded. I had to cut it off the battery and replace it too. Just an FYI.

Listen to this guy! I got a battery at O'Reilly's for $89 last year just because mine was four years old and I didn't want any problems.

The next thing would be the CPS. They can fail going down the road.

The RCM fails in several ways. The most common is that a solder connection breaks and you can't START the car (this is a connection concerned with the starter). It is rare to hear that a connection breaks and the car stalls (I'd assume this is a connection concerned with the fuel pump, can happen, does happen, but is rare).

There IS a chance that it is none of these items, but it is a slim chance. And anyway, the battery is a limited life part as is (as far as we can tell) the CPS - so replacing them is not a waste even if it does not fix THIS problem. But I bet one of the two WILL fix this for you.
