6/2/04 11am Update:
The finance writer calls to tell me my contract is void and that there is a right of recission or whatever on the contract. I told him to find it, because I read it and that is not true.
Finally he admitted that he made a mistake and that it was up to me to pay for it.
I told him that I wasn't paying for his mistake and that if he wanted me to renegotiate that he must give me something.
He offered a free oil change or some paint treatment. I told him I'd call back.
I'm going to counter offer with 3 oil changes and a guaranteed rental for me to have the recall looked at. But I'm going to make him sweat for a few hours first.
What do you guys think?

You need to figure out how many miles over the limit you think you might drive the car. If you don't think you will go over at all, take anything extra you can get out of them. If you are paying an extra $.05/ mile, the difference every 1500 miles would pay for an oil change. If you drive the car more than 4500 miles over, you'd be better off keeping your current contract. Otherwise, take all the free oil changes you can get. You already get a free rental from Chrysler for any scheduled service as part of their Premium Care program. This should include any recalls or warranty work. I think it also applies to oil changes, but I could be wrong.
One oil change is probably fair, especially since I don't know how many miles over I will go. Three years is a long time, but based on my historical driving record, I won't touch the limit. Although I already have over 400 miles on it in the first 5 days I've owned it.
The only reason I want more than one oil change, is because I think it's wrong that they bullied me with the idea that this was my fault. Not only that, but I also find is unacceptable to tell me the contract is void, when in fact, that is not the case. So they are now bullies and liars. I can't stand either.

I'm not sure if leasing is set up the same way in California, as it is in Michigan... In Michigan, when a car is leased through Chrysler Financial with a contract of 12,000 miles per year, the overage charge is .20 per mile. If you sign a contract for 15,000 or more, the overage is .15 per mile. It does sound like the dealer in this case actually did make an honest mistake, especially since the current promotion is for a 12,000 mile per year lease. Changing the mileage actually changes the residual value of the car. Hope this helps clear up some confusion? Take the oil changes...synthetic isn't cheap!

Personally, I would find another dealer and take my business elsewhere, even if I had to travel a bit. If they would have been honest up front, maybe I would be more understanding, but they weren't, so I wouldn't be. Anyway, that's just my honest opinion.
Problem solved!
I called the service writer and told him that because he lied to me and wasn't upfront, I wanted either 15k miles per year or 3 oil changes. He said he couldn't give me the miles and wouldn't give me the oil changes, because that was $450 out of his pocket. He was willing to give me $150 out of his pocket. He also offered the paint treatment again or an alarm system. Neither of which I wanted or need.
He said he couldn't help me if I wouldn't be resonable, so he said a manager would call. He did comment repeatedly that he was straightforward with me, but when I showed him how he wasn't, he didn't disagree.
So a manager called. I expected the worst. I gave him the entire story and he said he would give me whatever I wanted to make me happy. He offered either 15k miles or 3 oil changes. He didn't care. He wanted me to be a happy customer and get the lease sold to Chrysler.
I took the 15k miles and told him to fax a copy of it to me so I can see it before I come down. Now I'm just waiting for the fax!

After reviewing the faxed copy of the new agreement, I went down to sign this morning.
I ended up getting 15,000 miles per year AND .15 per mile overage. They said when you go to a 15,000 mile lease, you get .15 instead of .20.
hahahaha
And they did it with a smile on their face.
I appreciate everyone's help and I look forward to meeting some of you at upcoming west coast meets!

you started with a $299/mo. 39 mo. lease with 12K miles allowed per year, $0.15/mi. for extra miles. the service writer says the lease contract needs to be changed to $0.20/mi. for extra miles and offers you an oil change for your trouble. you are content to keep the original contract or want 3 oil changes in return for agreeing to the change. three crossfire oil changes would cost a consumer $250 or so.
you talk to a manager and now you have a lease for $299/mo., 39 mos., with 15K allowed per year and still $0.15 for additional miles. unless i'm missing something you gained 3K miles/year with no additional cost when you were content with your original contract. that's 9,750 extra miles ($1462  in depreciation at $0.15/mi.) that they are giving you. did anything else in the contract change such as the monthly payment? provided everything else is the same, i'm having a hard time understanding why they would do this.

The monthly payment stayed the same. The only thing that changed was they lowered the price of the car a little bit and the residual value on it dropped. A couple other things changed by a dollar or two, but my payment with tax is $320.00/mo.
