Default swap out run flat / new rims?

hello,

After being stranded for a 2nd time due to no one in the entire state selling tires for the crossfire i'm deciding whether or not to sell the vehicle. It's a great car, but if tire avaiability is so limited, I would be afraid to drive any long distance in it. but before that happens I have some questions, one of which is...

I'm wondering if any of you have ever changed rims and put "regular" tires on the crossfire, IE. non-runflat tires. There aren't any chrysler dealers with speed shops that sell these items yet, or even have them in stock. My dealer is extremely old school when it comes to service. They won't sell tires and told me to consult the yellow pages the first time this happened back in October of '03.

The best times I've been given for having tires shipped has varied from 2 days to 1 week.

I'm sure it would kill some of the sporty look, but perhaps there is a tire/rim combo that doesn't look too bad.

And oh, for the guys that ask about which number crossfire this is, it's #791 graphite.

thanks for your time,

tom

 Where have you been all this time? You have a very low number. You could have won the big prize for low number had you registed and posted a couple of months ago :!:

Just kidding about the prize. But - seriously, that is a fear I think we all have about the tires and lack of spare tire. What state are you in :?:

BTW - Great Color :!:

Vegas,

I'm in Connecticut. I had this happen in october and was told that it was because the car was so new, that the tire really didn't have any market penetration yet. But now after this happening a year after i bought it I see the situation hasn't changed much. The old reliable LHS is getting used for the next few days.

i was surprised i had such a low number. i didn't learn how to find it until i saw a post in the forum, heh..

I don't think either of the optional tire sets offered on most 2004s are run- flats. Michelin does make certain Pilot models in run-flat for certain sizes, please be sure what you've got before you decide you can drive home when the pressure goes down. Several threads here have suggested there are Goodyears that fit - sympathy, hope I don't need to find out soon.

Hi...

Another option...

Buy 1 extra tire for the front & rear... make arrangements and have them ready for shipping...

Can have 'em overnighted to your "flat tire" location...

My uncle does this for the special tires on his Harley w/ sidecar... it works...

Thats my plan, buy an extra set of wheels and have then ready to go. Eventually I'll need new tires anyway so the only expense will be the wheels and if I ever get stranded the $200.00 to overnight the wheel to me Wheels come up on e-bay all the time.

it is way cheaper to overnight just the tire and have it mounted rather then overnighting an wheel and tire and then have to mail the old wheel and tire back to yourself.

Everytime you have had a blow out and the tire could not be repaired?

You could also change over to the Goodyear Eagle 1 tires, which I understand are in a better supply.

When my Michellins wear out, and if they are still not readily available, I will switch to another brand.

Most of my trips are within 300 miles of home so I would most likely have someone just bring me the wheel. Most of my driving is on the interstate so the wheel will probably be trashed too.
Have it mounted?, I can see you've never been standed in LiveOak, Fl - only one BP Station & a Motel withnin 60 miles. Pulled the $200.00 out 0f my ---. Don't realy know what it would cost. There is only one shop here in Panama City that I would let touch the Rims. Hopefully I'll never have this problem, but it is something I've thought about.

I wound up buying a pair off tirerack.com today, and will keep the 1 good rear tire as a spare. Down the line it may be good to buy a spare rim. nothing fancy but one which will fit the tire.

drunkiq: the first time it emptied on the highway, just deflated. i ran on it empty, and it worked as a run flat should.

the 2nd time yesterday i had a nail. they tried to repair it and sidewall cracked in a clockwise fashion around the tire. they blamed the tired, i blamed them. we agreed to disagree.

dis,

did you ever think some jealous person was intentionally giving you flat tires. I have only had one flat in over 20 yrs and you have had twice that in 6 mos. i would do some hard thinking like where is happening at home or work.

You've been lucky... you can never tell when it will happen. Some of it may depend on where you live and drive. There is a lot of construction here and Phoenix is famous for road hazards resulting in flats and damage to cars. Just took mine to the body shop tonight for a new bumper caused by junk on the freeway. Sure glad I carry only a $100 deductible.

I-95 in south western CT and in the NYC area has some of the worst roads I've ever been on. I-95 is always under construction. pot holes that are 1 foot deep are not all that uncommon. it's always an adventure. the extreme weather changes we have (below zero in winter often, heavy heavy salting of the roads, 100+ in the summer with 100% humidity) trashes the roads fast. that combined with the heavy road use from living so close to NYC requires some roads being repaved twice a year.

I've been driving since i was 16 and I've had 6 flat tires. I'm 23 now.

i won't drive the crossfire to NYC for the above mentioned reasons, i take the LHS.

tires should arrive tomorrow, and i'll have them put on the rims on thursday. then i'll hopefully have a few more months...heh
