I will indeed try for some other things, I have wanted to paint the exhaust on our SUV for some time due to some surface rust, would this stuff hold up? I thought I read where someone used it on a CAI and it melted or something?

No problem, I dont understand why people get so offensive about things on this site now. It seems to be happening alot now.

The exhaust may not work, I remember Mimi saying that it melted on his intake, but I thought I had read that they can withstand temps up to 600*, which still wouldnt be enough for an exhaust but for an intake....... In any case you could try it and see. He may not have let it cure completely either. If it doesnt work I would just Rustoleum the sucker, or try to get rid of it with goof off or something like that.

They are definately one of the more expensive places to buy it. But there selection is pretty good.

I am actually contemplating having my SRT-6 platidipped pearl white. Plastidip has come a long way in the last few years and they now have pearls, metalizers, glossifiers, metallics, etc etc that can be mixed in. There is a local shop in town called Royal Dip that does outstanding work, especially at mixing customer colors/blends, and I emailed them this morning to get a quote. I love the original black on my car but the paint is pretty weathered and I actually have some clearcoat failure on my driver side door underneath the window trim. Ideally I want to have the car resprayed black sometime in the future but for now I thought that plastidipping it pearl white would really give it a unique look, especially being as SRT-6's were never offered in white

Hey! Back from the dead! Everyone just skipped over this thread and made new one's lol. Yes, I agree Plasti-Dip has come a LONG way since my project. I will never use it on the Xfire as a permanent solution but a $15 job real quick, it works pretty good.

LOL Interesting you just brought this up, I have done several more pieces, wheels, etc and this weekend we did an entire car at my buddies body shop - it turned out great. I still would be hesitent on the XF, but it has sure come a long way, thats for sure. We did his in anthracite true metallic and it looks like a legit paintjob.

We are starting a little dipping business at his shop, I would be very interested to see what your shop charges, please let me know?

It sticks great Greg. I did all the chrome on the crossfire and it sticks better on it then the silver stuff.

I talked to a local "professional dipper" about my Volvo winter beater.. I got quoted $150 for my Volvo 240 Wagon's roof in Pearl White and $75 for plain white.. and I believe prices for an entire normal sized car was $500

Wow, that is pretty cheap for a whole car. Between a solid prep (basically a really good wash and dry) and $300+ worth of material that price is very solid, I would never do one that cheap

I'm still waiting to hear back from the numerous places I messaged/emailed, but I am under the impression that a good plastidip paint job usually runs around $750. I am going for a more "custom" approach (satin white) which means they mix in a little bit of pearl additive and might make the cost a smidge more. Then again, I am trying to get a "friend discount" as I have alot of connections in my area's car scene as a result of my last car which was somewhat of a media wh0re.......lol.

Here are the places I am referring to.

Royal Dip: https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Ro...67421640078755
Charm City Dips: https://www.facebook.com/#!/CharmCityDips
Daedalus Customs: https://www.facebook.com/#!/daedalus.customs

A good plastidip job should last anywhere between 6-12 months depending on how you maintain it. My car is somewhat of a garage queen and being as I work from home and have a beater Civic that I drive when the weather sucks I full expect mine to last for a good while. The reason I decided to plastidip the car is because I only wanted a temporary solution to clean the car up until I save up to hopefully have the car resprayed the OEM black next year. My paint is a little rough around the edges and even has clearcoat failure on the driver side door. The car was like this when I bought it, but it only had 42k on it and already had a few goodies from Needswings & Eurocharged Performance so I couldn't pass it up. I think the satin white will look awesome and be a refreshing twist for this summer and then next spring it's going back to black.

Personally I would not do a car that cheap and between all the materials, prep, tape, etc to do it RIGHT, I think that is a great price. I would ask how much material you are getting for that price, though. You should do 2.5-3 gallons for a car the size of the XF to be done well and able to be peeled off, just FYI.

If you do pull the trigger, post some pictures!

I've been talking with Royal Dip & Charm City Dips and i'm actually thinking of doing the car a satin marroon/burgundy color now. Kind of like a fine wine I opted against white because they said that going from black to white more or less be the most difficult dip to pull of cleanly as it requires a grey base coat and more coats than a conventional dip. A darker color like burgundy/maroon on the other hand would be much easier. Plus the black engine bay with the dark red color would look pretty snazzy.

Basically this color: Dipping Car, Trying To Match Satin/Matte Red

The color is alright, but please do a better job on the car than this.

It looks like about 4 different colors down the side of this thing LOL

Lol it really does. But I absolutely love the color despite the fact that the execution was lacking. But honestly if the dude had enough money to build a widebody BMW on VIP Modulars I don't know why he elected to plastidip it. Plastdip is awesome, but I feel as though it's for the more budget minded enthusiast.

Anywho, I essentially want this color but I want more of a silver satin pearl in it whereas this has a gold satin pearl.
