Mark, I did the fix on my car but the key was not stuck and it was pretty easy. I would like to know in more detail, to help others, what exactly has to be done if the key won't turn. I know you must drill or cut the pin, but how did you do it?

If the key is STUCK, it is said that you wo'nt be able to push that pin in so that you can pull the assembly out. You need to drill the pin out, or at least down to where it will allow you to pull the assembly out.

I got lucky, when the tow truck put the car in my garage, I tried it and the ignition had freed up! I did not drive the car, but took the other one. THEN, next day, took the thing apart and removed the two items and put it back together. So I've never actually had to go thru it, but at least two other guys have called me asking for help. I always have to tell them to just follow the instructions and offer moral support.

I'm trying to remember who went thru this and called me on a Sunday in 2010.... BigKid? It was someone in SC or NC ? ? ? That is who you should ask.

 

So I take it, if you have to drill the pin, you will be purchasing a new housing?

It just appears that it would be impossible to drill out unless you disassembled more of the dash to get at the pin straight ahead to drill?

No, no purchase required. You have to push this pin in if you can turn the key, but if you have had to grind at it you do not have to push it in as it has been ground flush to slide the unit out.
If you have not done this, do it now, Angelo was having trouble with his at Woodward, fortunately he got home OK. Mine was a bit sticky at times and I was not sure if it was the start of the problem or not, when I got home from Woodward I did it just to be safe. You should do it while the key can be turned, grinding at it does not look like fun. You pull the trim away either way, to push the pin in or to see it to grind at it.

How true and I left the key in the ignition so I will be able to turn it.

Lucky you now I need to find a good mechanic in northern Indiana ???? Thinking about German Concepts in Mishawaka IN. ?? Anyone know of this garage they work on Mercedes, BMW, Audi !!!!

i just went thru this. If you can get the key to turn. Get it out. And do the mod. Or you will have to drill it out like i had to.
