Question Coolant level dash light intermittent

05 Crossfire coupe, V6, 6 speed manual, 160K miles: coolant level dash light comes on intermittently, temp gage remains in normal range, no signs of engine overheat. Replaced coolant recovery tank due to cracked tube and noticed a sensor(?) in bottom.........maybe has gone south? Any solutions out there?
Thanks!

Bad contacts on connector?

This would be my guess too.

I guess you did hook up the harness again and if so did it properly.

Slightly low coolant level? When cold fluid retracts slightly causing the level to drop just a tad? When it warms up the fluid could be expanding causing the light to go out?

Just a guess anyway.

The fill line is where the black top starts. My level was only a bit below that and the light would kick on driving up a couple steep inclines around town. (Spiritedly :P)

My coolant level light came on at one point too and coolant was full. Engine didn't run hot until I put on the a/c. Turned out to be a bad fan module and motor that triggered it so you might have the problem with the module as that was a recall issue.

My 2005 Crossfire had the fan motor come off the shroud. I cut a couple of zip ties and removed 4 clips and the whole thing came right out. I tested the motor by touching the connectors to a battery charger after removing the fan blade and it tested good. After putting it back together I am now my wife's hero as there is no light issue. Could be I got lucky but it's worth a shot.

Maybe the washer fluid level light as you say, I had the washer light come on and then go off and on for a while, the float was covered in slime and when I cleaned it the problem went away.

Wink Re: Coolant level dash light intermittent

My light did the same thing and I discovered the fan motor was completely off the shroud. Removing the shroud from the car consisted of 4 clips. I tested the motor with the fan off with a battery charger....all ok and after installing 4 nuts and bolts problem repaired.

Question. I had similar issue. Just replaced the coolant level sensor..in doing so, it was dry? This surprised me as I thought there would be coolant in the chamber. By looking at coolant through the black cap it is full?
What am I missing here?
Thanks for any clarification you can offer..

It's usually 1 of 4 things:

1. Coolant temp sensor
2. Coolant tank level sensor
3. Radiator fan
4. Fan control module

Default Re: Question on Coolant Chamber & dash light intermittent

Thanks for the list...I will work through them..
Specific to my changing the coolant level sensor. The black topped coolant bottle is filled to the line..but there is no coolant in the chamber that has the sensor.
How can that be..two separate chambers? How do I get the coolant into the chamber with the sensor?
This does not make sense to me..
Thanks for any help,
KJN

There is more than one chamber, the center chamber holds the reserve and it is connected to the other chamber by a tube. the other chamber fills when the coolant gets hot and there is a tube connecting the two chambers, a pressure in the system keeps the tube and the chambers at the same pressure. A lack of coolant in the system takes fluid from the full chamber to make up the missing fluid. It relies on that fluid be kept in the tube, no fluid in the tube and the missing fluid is not made up. Hence one chamber can be empty and the other full.
I did this write up on memory, look in the service manual for the correct explanation.

Thanks alot I really appreciate the reply. One more question.. Is no coolant in the chamber with the sensor a problem?

Yes, the black/clear resivour should have coolant in it at all times.

Yes, I understand. However, when I look in the container through cap, I can see and touch coolant. Yet, like I said there is no coolant in the chamber that has the sensor. When I replaced the sensor no coolant leaked out. So is this normal, or is there some kind of block, bubble in the hoses?

The unseen reservoir will be partially empty when the engine is cold, when the coolant gets warm it will expand and fill the unseen reservoir and maybe overflow into the reservoir you can see.
If there has been any coolant loses when driven, then later as the engine and coolant cool down it will suck fluid from the seen reservoir to keep the system in balance. If your were to remove the cap when cold you would see that you were low on coolant and you could top it up.

If there is no fluid at the sensor I would guess that the fluid was low and the spare fluid was not siphoned out as it should have been. The siphoning should occur even if the system is at ambient pressure.

That is my understanding of the system.
