P0123
Yeah those "I'm not real sure about" questions I can deal with all day..
It's that spoon feed me mentally that gets on a nerve.. LOL.
Too old to be wasting whats left on that..

Actually not my pic (can't have someone getting sideways.. LOL). But "you are correct". Vice grips or channel locks will let you "back and forth twist" on the vane till it breaks loose.. then a dremel to carefullly smooth it out.
The issue as best I can tell has nothing to do with the tune or not tuned. I noticed my car would sometimes "hang" an extra second at 1500 rpm when coasting to a stop. It's somewhat hard to notice on automatics, but I'm sure real noticeable with a stick. They seem to just eventually work through it though.
Oh.. "noob questions"... You did your homework and sought out the information! So any gray area questions you have are more than welcome..

These ribs were molded and therefore support the sides to some extent. After removal the constant heat may induce some stress release of the remaining part. Could this lead to air leaks due to part distortion? I'm not sure and I did not intend to find out.
My two cents for what it's worth. Who said not much?
Ordered all the parts I need over the weekend. Will keep this thread posted on how it goes or if the throttle body fixes the p0123 code. Although the check engine light has been off for a week now. I can still sometimes feel the symptom though when accelerating from a complete stop. If I end up having to replace the accelerator pedal...atleast I'll have the upgraded TB now
. Still not sure if i'll remove the baffles or not.

Update! I replaced the throttle body with the mercedes 113 141 0125 74mm. Got a used one with 75k miles on it at a junkyard using car-part.com. Ended up being $40 for the throttle body and $20 shipping. I purchased and used http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercedes-Benz-W202-W203-W204-NEW-GENUINE-Throttle-Housing-O-Ring-305-997-03-45-/151161574603?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2331ee94cb&vxp=mtr o-ring for $11.49 with free shipping. And I also upgraded the MAF to http://www.ebay.com/itm/98-10-MERCEDES-MASS-AIR-FLOW-SENSOR-METER-MAF-S500-S430-1130940048-0280217810-/300854699060?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item460c566434&vxp=mtr 74mm one, which was $20.99 free shipping.
This appears to have fixed my issue. I have not had the P0123 code came back yet, and I no longer experience the delayed accelerate symptom. If you have stumbled across this thread and are looking to perform the 74mm upgrade, please take note that if you purchase the 74mm MAF housing you will need to take the sensor off of your old OEM MAF housing and use it on your new.
