Default Help Please... Crossfire has delay when press accelerator!

Hi all, I'm new to this site and it's my first post so I apologise if I miss off any details needed.
I have searched the threads and cannot find what the problem could be, people list similar faults but none which sound the same.
I was driving tonight and my Engine Management Light came on and the power dropped and then went so limp.
I pulled over and then turned the car off, waited a minute and turns it back over bit starts over fine and the engine doesn't sound rough, but when I press the accelerator pedal there is like a 1-2 second delay from the revs actually going up, and same when I change gear and let off the pedal the back on.
When I press the pedal I can hear the air coming in still but it doesn't rev up for a noticeable time, which was never there before.
I have a 2004 Crossfire Coupe, manual, 75k miles.
Can anyone please advise what the problem may be or where I may need to start.
Apologies if I sound thick, I'm not a mechanic or ok the car trade at all

Thanks in advance
Jason

You hear air coming in? Could be a vacuum leak or your throttle body gasket is bad. Check to make sure the engine cover is on tight as well.

I mean when you first push the pedal down you here the intake of air, that's still there. My friends does the same too so I don't think that's anything different but I'll look into what you have advised just incase.
I will take it for a diagnostic today and hopefully narrow it down.
Thank you for the reply

Does this sound like it could be the TPS? I have been reading posts and some people have had similar problems and then changed the TPS which has resolved this issue.
Im just wondering if thats something I should prioritise?

You could try the TPS reset.

Is that just the normal Throttle Reset? If so I will try that shortly.
Fingers crossed.
Everything else is fine and if I accelerate gently and slowly it seems ok, but if the pedal is pressed, It is a noticeable sit and wait for catch up moment lol.
Cheers for the help, will let you know how this goes..

Did the Throttle Reset and still no luck

Will go to a garage for diagnostic. Its weird as it is such a delay thats never been there before and the Engine Management Light is on. Im hoping its just something as simple as the TPS which needs replacing or cleaning?

Will do, as soon as I have tried something, whether it fails or works, I will post it on here so others can see if they encounter the same problem.
It may be a little early for some people still, Im in the UK so its mid day here lol

The CE light is on, so a code has been set and the probable answer is there for the reading.
Could be the accelerator pedal.

The sound of air coming in will change only in relation to the revs rising unless the accelerator is connected to a window.

haha. No problems I will have the garage run a diagnostics check and hopefully they will pinpoint it. The sound of the air doesnt change, but you immediately notice it is pulling the air is as it would anyway, but the revs dont come until iv fallen asleep lol

Fingers crossed it wont be an expensive fix...

Had diagnostic done, reader said Air Flow
It's booked it for a 'running diagnostic' to check air flow and ratios etc next weds.
He says if it is the air flow, it will be very pricey and could be a dealer job. Does this sound right?

Really hope not otherwise she gonna have to be sold as spares as I just don't have daft money

That's it? Air flow?

Seems fairly vague considering that could be any number of things. Did they give you a specific code? Could be something as simple as swapping/cleaning out the MAF.

He says it's running fine apart from when put ped down quickly and then it's 'bogging'.
He just did a quick read with the small one or something and doing proper running one on weds.
He didn't charge me for this as was only a quick check.
I have been to another garage who will do a proper check tomorrow at 1pm so should find out more then.

Is the MAF something I can take off and just clean?

Thanks for the response.

Yeah, the MAF is in the curved tube at the back of the engine. Don't just spray MAF cleaner in there!!! You have to take it apart, but it can be a pain to tackle.

Check this thread out for instructions to the MAF: https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...ade-guide.html

Some good ideas in here too: https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...ode-p0172.html

The MAF sensor is actually located in the MAF body that connects to the elbow above the throttle body, the air cleaner attaches to the MAF body.
Photos are here as well.

Thank you for all the help and advice, it's really appreciated. I'm gonna take it off tomorrow and try clean it with some MAF cleaner, also booked in for the diagnostic so, fingers crossed I guess.
Again, all this advice is really helpful so thanks a lot guys!

Well, the garage said it was definitely the MAF sensor. So I fitted a new one today and put it back on, there's now engine light on anymore but the car still feels in Limp Mode.
I'm wondering if I could have a few bad coils or something?
I'm going to run it back to the garage in the morning and see what they say

Did you disconnect the battery for a few minutes? Sometimes it had to "re-learn" the air/fuel ration.
