Exclamation Help with descision to buy

I am considering purchasing a new 2004 Xfire in the next couple of weeks. Unfortunatley there is a lot of bad sentiment on the WEB towards Chrysler and their products. I have read some real horror stories. Can you give me some feed back on your personal experiences good and bad with the XFIRE? THANKS

imho - This is a wonderful automobile. No problems, gets over 25mpg averaging 80 with the A/C on, gets the greatest looks and remarks, and is just a joy to drive. In spite of being a low build number, have not had any TSB's performed as the only one I need is the radio replacement (dim display), I'll keep the original radio so that when my grandkids sell the car at Barret-Jackson they can go to college. In spite of what others say, write, flame. whatever - I REALLY LIKE THIS CAR!

80MPG?? well thats a farcry from the truth.

heres the downlow.

it looks badass.

especially the roadster.

but there are problems.
the steering uses a ball instead of connecting you to the road. (its outdated)

the power is quite low. so dont expect to outrun other sports cars.

stay away from manual on this car, as it is horriable. too many problems.

and the resale value is disatrous.

in short, buy this if you love it, and dont expect to switch cars soon.

Epyon, He meant 25 mpg at 80 mph. As for stories about Chrysler, take them with a grain of salt. You can find horror stories about any product if you look around enough. I've had four Chrysler products since 93 and I've been very satisfied with all. Some people seem to have bought their Crossfires believing that they were re-bodied Formula one racers. After finding that they are merely Great looking, good handling, reasonably quick, reliable touring cars, they become disenchanted.

The only Chrysler product I've evr had any problem with was a 2001 Concorde I bought in late 2000. The engine blew (seized) about 2 1/2 years into it. I had just crossed the 36k mile threshold for warranty. Chrysler tried to blame it on oil sludge, until I showed them that every oil / filter change had been done at or within 50 miles of 3000 miles. Then they only would 'share' the cost of engine replacement (which cost me a little over $2K) and then before I ever got a chance to do the 1st oil change with the replacement engine, it did the SAME THING. So I forced them to buy the car back and got the employee cost on a Town and Country with an extended warranty thrown in with it. Other than that, I've owned SEVERAL Dodge / Chrysler products. The Xfire is the cats *** so far....

i sure have'nt found anything wrong with the six speed trans ,works perfectly and as far as the resale ,i just watched 10 crossfires go through the auction that were damaged and fixed from the hurricane back east , and the 6 speeds went through for just as much as the auto's.

For what my opinion is worth:

The base or limited Crossfire is an incredibly good looking, well built, well handling, moderately high performance, high-tech, limited production, two seat touring car ... a Mercedes with a Karmann body and a Chrysler badge. If that is what you are looking for, you will be pleased. That is what I was looking for and I absolutely love it. It is not an extreme performance sports car (0-60 in 6.4 seconds and a top end of 150 mph is not too shabby, but you are not going to blow the doors off everything else on the highway). At my age, I no longer have the attention span, reflexes or neural synapses necessary to try blowing the doors off other cars on the highway ... and I don't need to get slapped up side the head by my wife for trying to do so (she also loves the car).

If you don't care so much about the great looks and the limited production (and perhaps, the build quality), and you want slightly higher performance, look at an Audi TT, 350Z or Boxster. If you want everything the Crossfire offers and much higher performance, take a look at the SRT6. If you want even higher performance, look at the 'vette, 911 or Viper. If that's not good enough for you, then you have far more money than I could ever justify spending on a car.

A few members on the forum have complained about mechanical/quality problems and lousy dealers. I have had only a couple of minor problems, and I have had exceptionallyy good service from my dealer. The Crossfire has been everything I wanted and much more.

Something to think about.

I am currently trying to get a minor (I hope minor) transmission problem fixed (vibration and noise). I went to the dealer the first time but the ONLY XF mechanic had an emergency and had to leave. I was told to come back the following Monday. That Monday, BTW a 42-mile drive, I found that he had gone on vacation. I should have called first. I had a firm but calm discussion with the manager. During the conversation he warned me that they do not stock any parts what so ever for the XF and that if it needed a part it might take a week or better to get it fixed but they would supply a rental car at no cost.

To me this car is more of a toy, which I love, than primary transportation.

Crap is a bit harsh, but I know what you mean:-D But the SRT-6 has a spoiler to reckon with also, it could go head to head with porsche's whaletail from the 79 911 turbo, LOL
