Remote starter switch
Hi All,
I am, almost, the happy owner of a 2004 Crossfire. Picking it up later today. It does not start. Current owner says it is probably a rely problem. Loading it on my trailer will be easier if it is running.
Is there enough room in the engine bay to reach the starter and attach wires of a remote starter switch to the “power” and “start” terminals of the starter? I’ve never been closer than 10 feet to a Crossfire, so I know virtually nothing about these cars. I did read about repairing/replacing the RCM. I can do that once the car is in my driveway.
Thanks for any and all input.

The car has keys. I have not seen the car in person, so I do not know what, exactly, the no-start condition is. I am going by the owners statement that it is probably a relay issue.
I was thinking I could turn the ignition to "run" and if necessary to "start" and press the remote start switch to engage the starter. Either it would start or not.
Is there enough room to access the wires attached to the starter solenoid?

A thumbs-up to all that contribute to the Crossfire Forum. This site provides a wealth of information. Information that helped to locate the source of, and repair of, the car’s no-start condition. In short order I found the RCM solenoid pack, cleaned a corroded connector and re-soldered two PCB connections. The car is now running. Yet, the location of the starter is still unknown to me. I’ll be OK if I never need to learn its location.
Thanks for the assist.

Oh for the good old days, when a connection to the positive terminal and the starter relay would crank a motor over. Great for checking compression etc.
With twelve coils per car, out of this world ignition security etc., has anyone figured out how one person standing outside the XF, can crank the engine over.

fff
Make damn sure the car is in Park or neutral - this bypasses EVERYTHING and engages the starter - PERIOD.
rrr
1) Remove cover over underhood fuse box.
2) Pop the fuse carrier out of the box and lift it up and away 2-3 inches.
3) Yank the Pulse module out and unplug it.
4) Pop the cover off the Pulse Module.
5) Plug the module back in and press on the starter relay. (If the key is "ON", the engine may start, certainly the plugs and fuel injectors should fire. If the key is "OFF", the plugs and fuel injectors won't fire, but the starter WILL engage.)
6) There are two relays, if nothing happens, try the other relay (second relay is for the coolant pump in SRTs, even Limiteds and Base models have both relays.)

We’ve resurfaced! The solder joints have held. Car’s on the road. I still have yet to find the starter, nor have I looked for it. After the car’s long hibernation there were a few glitches to iron out. Those glitches are done and gone. This is a fantastic automobile. What a hoot to drive. My little liebchen.
