If we are all happy with the 2-3 HP that the K&N filters brought to our cars, what more if it's more than that!

I'm with you HDDP, go for it!

^^^ Exactly my point. I spent over $2,000 and it was $2,560 to be exact on exhaust, chip, etc for my S2 and it got me about 2 hp on the dyno. If I can get 10 to 15 hp with a Super Eram for $650 then thats a steal.

I think people are being sarcastic because of all the losers selling leaf blowers on Ebay but the buys website states how the system works and even mentions the leaf blower scam artists. He's got lots of dyno print out and even a race car running the thing.

It won't hurt to see what happens. But people would rather be sarcastic and close minded. Its human nature I guess.

Like I said, "nothing ventured, nothing gained"... It is only going to cost me a little bit of time and effort if it doesn't work... I need to do the dyno anyway, I've been putting it off way too long...

He suggested that my dyno's be done with air/fuel mixture testing as well... Unfortunately that takes my cost from a basic $45 dyno run to $125 for the additional A/F ratio tests. Oh well, one less Cohiba cigar and bottle of 18 y/o single malt scotch... LOL

I'm going to try to get to Buttonwillow on Monday (Presidents Day) since I'm not working... I'll keep you posted...
I don't see a problem with the MAF sensor no more than it will be pressurized. Definitely do a wide band A/F. Generally, OEM’s like to flood gas into the engine mostly for a safety net. It’s not uncommon to see 11:1 A/F ratio but I’m not that familiar with foreign cars. Under WOT you can live with about 13/1 AFR but I always shoot for 12.7/1 for max power. Amazingly, running the engine on the fat side doesn’t hurt performance that much. I very anxious to see how this all plays out.

Just an update on progress...

I have now built up an ISO interface (see attaché) and tried it on the Crossfire - no joy, it won't communicate, but I know my board is OK because I checked it on a Peugeot 307. It is possible that the car uses the CAN version for OBD so I have ordered another chip from Elm that supports this and built up another PCB for it. I am also awaiting a response back from Elm as the list of ISO scanned cars does include several MB 320 cars, not the SLK though. CAN is now becoming the standard for OBD on new models but find it strange that the Crossfire would be using it since it is based on a old MB platform.

This is all starting to get off the subject of this thread so I'll start a new one in the Technical section in case anyone can give some input.

Simon.

Simon: Start another thread on this subject... I think there are a few in here that would be interested and possibly able to help... I'll do some research on the subject through DC, although I doubt they have the answers and will have to refer to MB...

Thanks HDDP, I've started another thread in the Technical section.

I had the same problem back in 2001 with my PT Cruiser, even DC couldn't confirm the protocol and referred me back to my dealer! I eventually found out by trial and error that it was using VPW protocol more often used by GM!

Woody, I'm pretty sure you will need the CAN version of the software because the car definitely has a CAN.

Yes, I think this is the case but not just because the car has CAN. CAN is used extensively throughout the automotive industry and is used primarily for comms between various control/monitoring systems, even the audio. Nearly all cars that are OBDII compliant will have a CAN bus somewhere thanks to the likes of Bosch et al supplying various system components, but the presence of CAN for these systems doesn't necessarily mean the OBD port will use it. The PT Cruiser for instance has CAN but it uses VPW for the OBD port. MB make extensive use of CAN but their OBD ports or all ISO which is why I was assuming the xfire was ISO. However I have since found out that from 2004 DC started to move from VPW to CAN for the OBD port whilst MB remains ISO. So I guess they may have switched the xfire's OBD to CAN so that DC dealers can all use the same diagnostic tools. I should be trying a CAN interface in the next couple of weeks so we shall see.

I have started a new thread for this subject here:

Simon.

Edited to add link to new thread.

It doesn't seem practical because of the added batteries. Although I am checking out some new Hydrogen batteries for my movie cameras this week and will the re-visit the idea...

^^^ I'm interested but the electrical work would have to be done by a professional and no professional would touch that with a ten foot pole. So us non mechanical, electrical normal people are SOL.

With that much HP increase you would definitely have to play with the engine manage system, injector size, timing and who know what else that we have no direct control over. I would rather hotrod something that is a little friendlier. Nothing like a good challenge though!

they said they just added an injector in that article and had no more fuel problems. i think ecu stuff is blown way out of proportion, not that complicated. people don't run high tec comps with nitrous, this works the same...
