8th Annual Fall 2014 - Tail of the Dragon GTG-October 3, 4, 5
Two new front tires are ordered and on their way, spare crankcase position sensor ordered and also on the way, by Monday evening the oil should be changed and ceramic brake pads installed. Still need to pickup the tools needed to install said CPS if needed. Dug out the 2 channel walkie talkies I used a few years ago on a trip to Camp Jeep.

I have been told that FRS radios are recommended when traveling in a group, will these work or do I need to upgrade.

I would upgrade. Those may be on FRS freq's but if the group doesn't use one of the two channels you have they won't be any good.
In Canada no license is required if the power is 2 watts or below.
That's what I can see anyway.
That's correct Dave :
The Family Radio Service (FRS) is in the 462 - 467 MHz spectrum range.
The most common use for FRS spectrum is short-distance, two-way communications using small, portable hand-held devices that function similar to walkie-talkies.
The Family Radio Service (FRS) is licensed by rule. This means an individual license is not required to operate an FRS device. You can operate an FRS device regardless of your age and for personal or business use so long as you are not a representative of a foreign government.
The General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) is in the 462 - 467 MHz spectrum range.
The most common use of GMRS spectrum is short-distance, two-way communications using small, portable hand-held devices that function similar to walkie-talkies.
An FCC license is required to operate a General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) system.
Licenses are issued for a five-year term and can be renewed between 90 days prior to the expiration date and up to the actual expiration date of the license.
(In 2010, the FCC proposed to remove the individual licensing requirement for GMRS and instead license GMRS “by rule” (meaning that an individual license would not be required to operate a GMRS device). This proposal is still pending. )
FRS devices have a maximum power of ½ watt (500 milliwatt) effective radiated power and integral (non-detachable) antennas.
If you operate a device under the rules that apply to GMRS, you must have a GMRS license.
GMRS devices generally transmit at higher power levels (1 to 5 watts is typical) and may have detachable antennas.

nothing else to do other than show up. And there will be at least twice the number of 'basic' cars as SRT6's.
O, and fill up before you get there, not too many gas stations around.

I realize we don't have pictures of ourselves on this site for the new members. Well here's mine, if your lost, or have any questions please stop me and if I don't know the answer I'll find out.
I go to relax.... I have been there, ran the roads I like and got my fill. Now its for fun and friends and a friendly drive. Not that "Big Kid" and I wouldn't sneak off for a friendly dual down the hellbender on Sunday mornings.... That I will sorely miss......
Just got back from Gatlinburg ,had a nice visit with Don and Lora ( Dakota BOY ) They say Hi to all ! and Franc just let you known that Cades Cove is closed on Sat. not sure when your were planning making that run . Just another three weeks , keep the wing up see at the Dragon,
Been going to this meet since Spring 2008 twice a year for the first 4 years
Then I began to fly in for the Spring GTG and drive in the Fall GTG.
Now I think I'll fly in and enjoy the company of the many people I know and look forward to meeting the many new people who attend every year
I have driven most all the roads over and over and although I enjoy them very much I can enjoy them even more now just riding with others in there cars and taking in all there is to see as a passenger
See ya all in a few weeks
Gary

Got the October issue of Road & Track today. There's a good article on the Tail of the Dragon. Author took a Ferrari 458 Speciale thru the twisties. Lot's of coverage of locals and best times to run the Dragon.
Enjoy,
Enjoy,
