8th Annual Fall 2014 - Tail of the Dragon GTG-October 3, 4, 5
I know, the SLOWEST guy got nabbed - what kind of message does that send to the first timers?

They say the only way to outrun a bear is be faster than the slow guy.
The message is,,,,,,Don't,,,, Be,,,,, The,,,, Slow,,,,, Guy!
Don't be scarring off the newbies with all this talk of tickets
We run a lot of miles with varying speeds and road conditions
If you are staying with the group your chance of being singled out is slim
The use of the two way radios is also encouraged to notify the entire group of any LEO's or other potential hazards along the way

No, I got that ticket because I went a group that I am not capable of keeping up with and I knew that all along.
You don't go run with the big dogs unless you are capable of doing so - there is plenty of fun to be had in the other groups. If you go with such a group and you get a ticket, it is not anyone else's problem or responsibility other than your own.
In ANY event, Gary informs me that he may need another tourist class leader with SRQ not attending - and I would consider it a pleasure to serve in that capacity. This may be my chance to do the "waterfall tour" (as I call it) over by Franklin.
I've had enough challenges and excitement for one year already (some of you don't know, but I spent the last Dragon in a hospital bed wondering if my heart was going to make it).

I'ts all up in the air right now. USUALLY, yes, that is a Sunday run. And it is my understanding that there are two runs like that over by Franklin. AKING knows the story as do others here - Iv'e never acutally gone on that run, but I DID visit some of the waterfalls south of town on the way home to GA one time.
I've got to see what the other leaders are doing - when we get together Friday night, I think we'll make our plans.
I've also never visited the Builtmore - THAT is always a Sunday run and I've kinda wondered about doing that once as well. I don't need to be home till about 130 on Monday -so I have options open this year that I dont usually.

I also think that a "Devil's Triangle" run (at legal speeds, mind you!) would be a great thing for many of us. I showed Jonathan a "back way" to get over there that makes it a shorter run than the typical all-day-six-hour-rally that the fastest guys do, and he agreed that this could work for moderate or tourist class groups very well.
But again, THAT run could work as a SUNDAY run, as once we get back around I75, people could split up and head for home to the north and west.....
Lots of stuff to consider!

I'd also like to take time to go GoKarting over by Seiverville - maybe Friday? Those who went, said they had a real blast last year!
Of course, let's not forget the Brewery/Museum run.... So many options for only 2-3 days.

I have been going to the Dragon meets since 2008. I have yet to get a ticket. But then everyone knows I strictly obey the speed limits right?

Odds are slim anyone will get a ticket. drive safe and prudent, no worries.
And don't run with Nick or Pizza,,,,you'll be safe . bored but safe.

I like that for Sunday. I have yet to do the Devils triangle.
But , I have the Cades cove run to Mayville and the Brew and Chew. Anyone have interest? If not I'll cancel and schedule something else.
Go Karts are in Pidgeon Forge, 40 mph go karts, and a nice leisurely drive over there. Plus you can take 441 back. It's slow, but very scenic.
Is it almost time to start a separate thread about the runs ? I know where Cades Cove is, but not the Brew and Chew - so I assume its over that way somewhere....
pizza: good idea of yours to start a thread for the potential upcoming "runs"...will give everyone the overall options available...just talking...Carl
Gary left an empty post on the first page of this thread to display all of the different runs. Creating a separate thread for people to post optional runs will only disappoint those who attend. Gary has run this event many many times. Let's just follow his lead and I'm sure everything will work out just fine.
I need all the help I can get from the knowledgeable route leaders with the size of this attendance
I ask anyone who is a regular, to volunteer to make a run and be a leader.
Then with all the volunteers present at the lodge Friday night we can sit down and discuss routes for Saturday and Sunday.
This is always one of my largest concerns but it has always worked out fine at every past event.
Just me alone can not manage a group of this size with out the help of other volunteers
Thanks, Gary
