Default bad smell

Don't know what the incredibly bad burn smell is coming from the car. Almost seems as though it could be something to do with the clutch although no major shifting problems that I can tell. took it to Ohio from Tampa last week and noticed the smell 1/2 way through the trip. Took it to two different dealers. The first in Dalton Ohio, my home town, wouldn't even take a look. the second put it through their list of checks and came up with zero except the recall hadn't been done by my service department the week before my trip. Are all the Chrysler service techs morons. My love affair with car has faded to say the least. From broken a/c vents to broken top, broken a/c system, pieces falling off the interior, fog lamp falling out, tire pressure indicator lighting up for 2 years with no fix from the service department after 6 visits for it, until my right rear tire disintegrated, the list goes on and on.
Sorry for the tirade, just sounding off...

This may be kind of a dumb question, but what does it smell like? A burnt clutch has a very distinctive smell and should be easy for even a novice mechanic to diagnose. Are you experiencing any other symptoms?

There don't seem to be any other symptoms. could be the clutch, although at 85 mph in 6th gear from Tampa to Atlanta the clutch really doesn't come into play does it?
It does have a burnt smell.

I know there has been talk of the catalytic converters causing bad smells. I am assuming that the smell goes away when you stop the car for a few minutes?

Actually it might. If the clutch spring is weak, it could be slipping under the load. Although you would be more likely to notice it under hard acceleration in 1st or 2nd. It's also possible you may have something leaking onto the exhaust pipe or header. It's amazing how much bad smell a few drops of oil or grease can make.

Not really. I stuck it in the garage one night and it was unbearable the next morning.

OK... That shoots my idea down... Thought it might have been one of the Crossfires that got flooded out in Mississippi or Louisiana and was molding inside.

Have you looked to see if there is anything stuck on the exhaust? A friend once got a plastic bag stuck on his tail pipe and he had a nasty burnt smell for a while until he figured out where it was coming from.

I have smelled what resembles rotten eggs a couple of times (and no I did not eat taco bell before that). Anyhow, I noticed it to be mainly when the car is either A.) Pedal to the metal or B.) Full Throttle in Sixth. I am thinking it is the cat. converter, not the clutch. If you want to smell clutch - go up an hill and burn her a little - you will smell it.
