beating a dead horse
First off i have been watching this board for a couple of weeks now...i recently(june) bought an 05 roadster base and despite having it at the dealership almost the entire month of july diagnosing a problem with the convertable top..wich they did fix...I LOVE THIS CAR! anyway im thinking of buying a wood dash kit for it to spruce up the interior and i have seen some of your pictures and they look great...but is there a good, better, best product to look for..or does the old addage you only get what you pay for hold true here..any help would be appreciated.
From what I've seen there are two ways to go. The overlay (which there are two forms of) and I'm not sure what to call it other than "direct applique".
On the overlay, you have a thin vinyl look of wood, almost like a cheap speaker cabinet. The other method is thicker and slightly padded with finished edges. This is the method I chose.
The "direct applique" method would most likely look like "factory wood". You have to disassemble the parts you want covered and send them to the jobber. This is ok as long as you XFire is NOT your daily driver, but it does look good.
Hope this helps, Smfry

I bought a wood dash kit for my truck. I think these kits look cheap. From a distance they look nice, but in the vehicle, they look exactly like what they are, a stick on, vinyl, fake wood. I would not spend the money on them, especially a nice car like our crossfires. I see a lot of forum members have them and rave about them. My advise is, see one of the kits installed before you put one in your xfire.
Yo Brick you gotta check out this thread. GREAT looking stuff! In wood overlay too.
