Temp down - so do roadster posts
I notice as it gets colder, the number of roadster posts seem to go down. I'll submit one of my final threads before the roadster goes into hibernation next month. I had to pick my daughter up in Detroit Thursday night. I made the whole 364 mile round trip topless, even though the temp ranged from 62->50o. (Fessing up, I had the windows up and the heater blasting.) I also ran into three little rain sprinkles. With radar detector on, I drove 80-90 almost all the way and still calculated 28 mpg on the fill up when I arrived back home. These are awesome little sports cars.

No hibernation here! In fact, we are heading up to the mountains today for some driving fun. I drive mine year round, albeit less in the winter as she wears her summer shoes year round so the temp has to be somewhat warm. Fortunately, despite the snow storms, we actually have pretty mild winters here - LOTS of sunshine and enough days up to the 50s and even a few 60s days in the midst of winter to keep the 'vert ready to play. On the flip side, we can have snow all the way into May but it's no big deal, literally here today, gone tomorrow.
If you drive at more "legal" speeds, the gas mileage is even better. Michigan is 70 and if I stay close to that it gets 28-29. At a steady 100 kph, you can achieve 30+. But I don't have that much self control even when I am driving through Ontario!
My gas mileage isn't even close to that...last time I checked, it was about 19 mpg. Lot of stop and go on the commute. Long distances are usually mountain driving at varying speeds. Almost no steady highway miles for her. And I do like to drive fast.
But I didn't buy the car to be economical, I bought her to rail around.
Everyone has their own driving style/conditions...mpg will def vary based on that.

Just arrived home after a 2000 mile, 4 day road trip to southern British Columbia,(Oliver)top down all the way with temps starting @ 20c and dropping to 4c. However this morning in Vailmont B.C. a skiff of snow, frozen puddles and -4c had me for the rest of the trip with the top up. I have driven with the top down @ -2.5 c, but when it was put down it was 10c, I would not want to try dropping the to @ below 10c in case of damaging the fabric.
I may get one more week of good weather before I have to put her in hibernation till may 2011
I will work out the gas millage tomorrow after a fill up

I documented 32 mpg in my coupe. Doing 65-70 mph the whole time.... No traffic just a straight shot across Texas. By the way.... There is no hibernation in Texas. Still 85 degrees during the day and 50's at night.
I will get 28 mpg in there are lots of cars on the road. Slowing down and speeding up uses more energy.

Here in st louis the legal limit for having your roadster top up is 53F
I hope I never get caught by any of the other Gateway crowd with it up in weather that balmy.
And Goldwing is spot on...."these are awesome little cars"
And I am the

Well, mother nature has finally caught up with us this evening with snow and cold. Monday and Tuesday were beautiful (60+ degrees). I enjoyed top-down driving on both days. It looks like the "top-down" season may finally be done. However, we do get those 60+ degree days in the winter and I maybe able to partake again. I guess will be coupe time for the most of the time unless there is serious snow and then it will be Jeep time.
Waiting for May!

I've heard this before
J/K good luck on the trip
I store my two roadsters in the Winter because of SALT. Not snow or temperature. SALT destroys machines. I use my PT Cruiser which does very well on snow/ice. And is expendable. Remote starter... Gary
Mine did 30mpg on a recent run. The roof is up cos its raining - this is the UK
. It has to be said that no-one over here would be particularily impressed with the level of economy we are talking about. Must be the difference in the price of our petrol at $7.20/us gallon
not sure what yours is at the moment but reckon its much cheaper. The price tends to concentrate the mind
No question us colonials are spoiled by cheap petrol -- now peaking at about $3/gallon. It would not bother me one bit to see $1/gallon tax if it would reduce the number of speeding Hummers and Prius' and they used the funds to start rebuilding our crumbling superhighways. And I'm used to driving 30-40k miles per year between my two Crossies and an A6. I've driven quite a bit on the continent (and Ireland) and the distances are noticeably shorter in EMEA than they are here in the states. Crossing Germany is like going across Michigan and Illinois, just a lot more fun.

Doing 65 I get around 18 Mpg.

My mileage was dropping for a while until I changed out my spark plugs (NGK Iridium) and wires (Magnecor) - as soon as I changed them, the mileage/performance jumped back up. I inspected the old plugs and wires and couldn't see anything wrong, but it sure made a difference.
What RPM's is your engine at when you are at 65? It should be between 2000 - 2500 RPM - maybe you're not shifting into overdrive?
