Chrysler to Replace '05 Convertible Tops Under TSB - YAHOO!!
My wife's 2005 roadsters window just fell out and sadly it is covered but the 10 year window ended in July!. We actually started having problems in June of 2013 with one side starting to seperate but did not know about the regional TSB. It would have been nice for Chrysler to let the customers know. I just joined the forum, great place for info!
Has anyone with the warranty replacement had to pay installation fees out of pocket? My top is covered by the warranty but the IDIOT at the dealer said I was responsible for costs over the 1.9 hours covered by the warranty for installation.

If Chrysler allows 1.9 hrs for the job, that's because a properly trained mechanic should be able to do the job properly in 1.9hrs.
Is there something additional to be done that the TSB does not cover?

I believe dealers charge by the MAN-HOUR, and it takes a minimum of 2 people to do this job.
So, in essence, they are saying the start to end time for replacement is 57 minutes !!!
There is no way on God's green earth that this job can be completed in under one hour, unless you have a team
dedicated to doing this 8 hours a day.
It took maxcichon and I 4 hours to do, admittedly it was our first time. We could probably do it the second time in 2 hours, if nothing went wrong.

Thanks guys for the info. The owner of the shop that is going to do the replacement estimated roughly 7 hours to remove & replace. BTW he mention that he has a guy in california that has come up with a way to permanent attach the window using a metal frame. The replacement shop sends the top to them for use as a pattern & they send the replacement top back. Window is guaranted not to come apart. Anyone hear of this method?
That's the problem: There are no more properly trained crossfire mechanics around anymore..

Red Dog.. is that "per your dealing with them"? Think I'll pull up the car fax and see what's on the wife's car.. no issues on her top but good future reference..
My 05 roadster was built on Feb 18, 2004 so it is possible that they could be running out of time on the ten years...
Yes from my case with Chrysler Customer Car regarding the failed rear window adhesive on my #1 SRT6 roadster. If your car / top is covered under the selective 10 yr 100,000 mile warranty, I strongly suggest that you take advantage of it and have Chrysler replace the top. Even if you don't see any signs of the adhesive failing (yet) it will eventually fail. You can help it along by simply putting a towel down underneath the rear window (to cushion it and prevent damage to your tonneau cover finish) then push on the glass around the edges. It will fail. Then take the car in and get a new top.
You can run a CarFax report on your car OR simply go to your local Chrysler dealer (I can't believe I'm actually suggesting someone should take their Crossfire to a Chrysler dealer) and they can pull up your VIN number in their computer system and tell you the date your car was originally put in service.

That is pure B/S. Call Chrysler and report it & you should go to a different dealer. If they don't have someone trained to do it, they should send it out to a qualified auto upholstery shop. Where is their B/S stated in their TSB???

Ditto. Date of delivery to first registered owner of DMV records. Also, their "Letter" states that this Warranty should be kept with original papers for future reference, ie: passed along to future owners, as this is not restricted to original owners.
FYI: NHTSA is going to hold a "Hearing" on the safety aspect. Their result must be published in the official Federal Register of the U.S. Gov't. We contend that the detachment of any motor vehicle window, fixed in position or otherwise, IS Safety Related, whether or not the danger or risk is imminent at the time of separation, which can only be determined based upon factors/conditions prevailing at the time of Each incident of occurrence! Please share your opinion at safercar.gov. Thanks!
If nothing else, Our Gov't should add to the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards: ANY fixed position motor vehicle window should NOT become separated/detached from it's mounting point for the expected reasonable lifetime of such vehicle/window!

The fabric "stays" likely need replacing. (out of pocket cost?) Get a written price from Chrysler parts before proceeding. (they may try to jack up the cost once in the shop)

Actually I never received the letter because (according to Chrysler) I was not the original owner of vehicle (I bought used with 13000 miles on it) and the dealer I bought it from had went out of business (actually it was one that Chrysler closed), Therefore they did not know I owned car?
According to the Chrysler database, My car was put in service in July 2004. Seems like it is a little early, but that is what the VIN exposed.
What is your vehicle's date of manufacture shown on the sticker on the driver's door?
