Repairability Thoughts
I unfortunately rearended an SUV who does no know how to speed up to merge and stopped while I "goed". While the speed was slow, 5-10mph, the damage seems larger than I would have expected. It is yet to be assessed, but interested in thoughts of repair.
Hood, right fender, headlights,
Does anyone have any experience on what might happen here?

The cheap repair of the ruined front lens would be a new lens that is cemented to the trimmed edge of the existing lens after the existing front front panel has been cut off carefully. This would rely on the rear assembly being OK in its entirety.

Keep him in mind for when it's being repaired. I'd rather have a used fender or headlight than wait 3 months for one to be delivered if it's an option to go that route.
In the event it is written off, does anyone know what the buy back value might be?
Looking at replacements seems to me that the values have gone up from some years back, or is that just me?
I never knew how much I loved my ride till it is not in its spot.

For reference:
Repairs were asssesed @ 11k and declared a total loss so I will be looking for another vehicle. Assesed value is $15.5k.
I was thinking that I could do this @ home but getting parts...
Anyone want a 2005 74k convertable with some front end damage
$4k in SJC (San Jose). I have 48 hours.
Looked highly repairable from the pictures.. If I were in your shoes I'd be getting a hold of Mrmopar asap
to see what he's got and get some pricing and go from there. I could still perma-grin with a rebuilt title.. and 5 grand or more in my pocket.

Else, I have a full 2006 3 volumn service manual, oil filters and CPS (new in bag). Will post in for sale when finalized.

Unless you order new from Germany..lol. There are some nice carbon fiber hoods with vents I think still available in the sale section. They run a grand I do believe..he kinda got stiffed on a group buy.

You can buy these types of cars for peanuts all day long, because they have a salvaged title, hence resale would be even worse than an XF normally is. This is exactly what MrMopar is doing, buying cheap, salvaged cars with as little damage as possible, but he is not fixing them because of the titling issues. It is easy to say that it would not be a big deal and would be a lot less than they quote, but when you factor in shitty resale, HUNTING to find certain parts (if you can get them at all), and the literally hundreds of hours would have in the reapir, it starts looking a lot more like reality setting in...
ask your ins co how much they would pay without totaling the car if you get above 8000. you might want to take that and have a shop repair the car,,, i did this with a truck,, that i rebuilt the motor ,,they totaled it ,,i as that question,, got 6000 repaired the truck for 4000 and put 2000. in my pocket ,, if you buy it back it will have a rebuild title and you may not be able to get col and comp ins. jim

All I am saying is its easy to say, and a lot less easy to do, a full repair on your own. I have had two of these damn near completely apart and the paint alone is a pain in the *** to match perfectly, much less dial all the gaps in perfectly for the body. Body work is NOT easy and a reapir like this is not for the faint of heart. I remember one guy here waiting nearly a year for ONE part, and his car just SAT the entire time. Or you run into a very small frame bend, not detected at first that causes insane tire wear or a horrible ride, no camber adjustment in the suspension, big problems quick but you dont know until you put miles on it...
It is a BIG job for anyone to take on, fixing a totalled car. Hundreds, if not thousands of variable can incrase cost or derail a project like this very easily.
Check out Coparts.com. They have several wrecked Crossfires for sale with no frontend damage. Of course those cars would have salvage titles, but if you are stripping the donor car it doesn't matter. Just keep it in your barn in Gilroy for future part needs.
If insurance company pays you off and leaves you with car to fix, there should not be a salvage title on the car. You would retain your original title.
