Hi everyone, just got myself a Crossfire Roadster. Waited long enough, but well happy. Just one issue, the convertible roof will not fully retract properly. Everything seems to be fine except that the last 2-3 inches will not go down to make a flush finish. The motor keeps popping it back up!! Then of course if you try and drive, the audible warning sounds. Is it not connecting with a latch properly? Is this common/easy to fix? Thanks in anticipation of any help on the matter.
latch might be sticky due to non use,, I lube all moving parts periodically and sometimes I push with my hand for the final click until the lube starts to work, then it's fine on it's own
My back window came almost completely out of the canvas (see photo). I read the different posts and the video from dcskmail.
As the posts are quite old, do you recommend the same glue/primer from 3M to make the repair ? As my window is almost separated from the canvas, may be the best bet would be to take it out. In that case, it is easy to unplug the wire to the window heater ?

I know that you don't want to hear this, but the best solution is to replace it. There are tons of stories of people who have glued the windows back in and it fell out 3 - 6 months later.
The tops area bout 20 years old now. You can get a new BAS top for about $800.00 it's just like the original. My car has an EZ ON top.
The window on mine is sewn in, not glued. I don't know what the EZ ON costs, mine was replaced before I bought it.
Best of luck with whatever you decide to do.

I second this. A lot of folks on the forum don't like to listen nor hear the news but you have an 18+ year old ragtop. IT IS TIME TO REPLACE. EZ-On tops are great but a little bit more pricey than the UK based company BAS that have sold hundreds, maybe thousands of tops to our community with great success.
EZ-On runs you around $1400 whereas BAS has it for sale at $800 incl. shipping and if you ask nicely maybe you will get a forum discount LOL.
Either way, the install is relatively easy to do it yourself. If you have Facebook, I bet there is a nice Facebook member somewhere nearby who would like to help you if you needed assistance. I's easier if two people, but also doable if just by yourself. There are two really really good videos on Youtube for step by step.
Or you can NOT listen and take a looong time (longer than replacing the top) and glue the window back in so it can fall back out within a short period. But as always, choices in life...
I was not in the mood for a replacement but I'm taking into account your advices.
The problem is to find a cost-effective provider of such a top in Europe. The shipping cost and custom taxes would be prohibitive to deliver it in France.
So I will probably make the "easy" repair with the glue, and in the meantime find a reliable solution here in Europe.
I was also thinking of another (probably risky) solution: gingerly drill 6 or 8 holes both in the canvas and the window to secure the whole stuff in addition to the glue. Bad idea ?

Telling you now, don't waste your time.
1) BAS is located in England so shipping should not be bad for you and it's also the most cost efficient roof out there, while at the same time being of fantastic quality. If you tell them the forum sent you, they might give you a discount (I think the price is normally $800 shipped which is a steal). BAS Crossfire Tops
Many member on the forum and facebook groups have used these tops (including myself) and they are fantastic quality, no issues and even though the window is glued just like OEM, it seems to be fabricated much much better.
2) You are looking at the wrong EZ tops....These are called EZ-ON (EZ-ON Crossfire Top) - More expensive but the top is sewn into the fabric so in theory is a much stronger hold than just "glued" like the OEM or even BAS top is.
Keep in mind, you window has completely fallen out. You are dealing with a car that is 18+ years old. That soft top has reached the end of its life cycle and did it's job well. Do you really want to buy clamps, different kinds of adhesives (because I bet most won't last even a month) and then in 3 months you are back to square one after all this work? Why not put a brand new, beautiful deep black (or another color if you choose) on so your car can look like new again? It really is worth the money...
