Default Rattling from Engine Cover

The car runs great except for this rattle coming from the engine cover area at low idle. I can't hear it beyond low revs or idle. Before i start messing around i figured i would try the forums and see if anyone has any input. Thanks in advance.

Hi

From my experience with my wife's Mercedes here is what I think. Going to take a stab at it. Had you or some one else changed the oil or removed the cover? It is easy to break the part that secures the cover. She took it in to be serviced and she noticed the rattle latter. They had indeed broken the clamp that secured the cover.

Worth a shot pulling it off to take a look.

Just had the oil changed about a month ago. Will take a look and let you know. Thanks so much.

Unfortunately that wasn't the case. Thanks for your input though.

If I remember, the covers clamp down on a rubber mount. If it is tight, there should be no rattle. I would see if there is any play and also run the engine with the hood open and try and determine source of rattle. This is the first I have heard of the engine cover rattling. You can also remove it and see if the rattle goes away -- if it does, not the cover.

It turned out to be a bad alternator.

Actually they are pretty close together and sound travels. For those of you looking to replace theirs as well this is the one i bought from Amazon and it works great. More than double the price at any local store.
