Default To buy or not to buy...

Looked at a 2005 Crossfire today. 84k. I know little about cars. Spoiler light flashing. Spoiler not working. Top doesn’t work. Smelled like rotten eggs on test drive a couple of times. Also a burning smell after I came off the interstate. By the way, is beeping when you hit 85 normal? Asking price is 7K.

Move on Pete, sounds like a real POS, unless you are buying, based upon pricing.
Your admission of the lack of anything auto is another stunning clue not to buy this Crossfire....

Tips when buying a Crossfire https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...crossfire.html
I would base my decision on the overall condition of the car: interior, exterior motor compartment etc. be aware that most convertibles back windows have a problem with the glass separating from the top

Pete, I'd stir clear of this one. There is too many Crossfire out there in fantastic shape for cheap so why go for a rescue vehicle with tons of issues. Sometimes it makes sense to pay a little more but then not having to put a bunch into repairs.
These cars don't have a lot of problems if they were well maintained. Usually if the interior and exterior looks like crap you can tell the previous owner(s) did not take pride in ownership.
The little common issues that Crossfires have can be easily rectified if you spend a little bit of time on this forum and are willing to learn how to fix these cars.
If you don't want to work on them yourself it's best to approach an independent repair shop that is used to work on German but specifically Mercedes vehicles. Given that the car is a Mercedes SLK under it's skin, shops might charge a little bit more than if it was a Nissan Altima.
All that said, these are super fun and unique card that can be had at low prices if you just search for a good one.
Makes sense to check the Marketplace section of this forum but also, join the Crossfire Facebook groups of your area so that seasoned owners can help you in your search.

Spoiler not working, light flashing, top does not work = fair chance the CLP/SSM has been wet due to water in the trunk. A replacement module and replacement of part of the wiring harness should fix this.
Burning smell is oil seeping out of the breathers, easy fix if you fix things.

It's a $4000-5000 car. Its a good buy (perhaps) for one of us who restores and tinkers with Crossfires.

"I know little about cars" = find a low miles one owned by a forum member or by one of our Faceboook members, you will pay $9000 to $12500 or more but you will be happy.

Also, "AR" is not a location, put up your city or a city close to you, helps when you ask for help. If you are in AR, you will have NO WHERE to take the car for service, I know, I lived in Rogers for three years.
But there are a LOT of owners in the state. The third biggest national event is Eureka Springs in June.

Agree, are nice cars in the $4k-$5k range that need little. My coupe needed some things (have fixed most) and was less. If trunk water damage, the locks may not work either. Rotten egg small is often a too rick mixture resulting in sulfuric acid mist. out the pipe. A thorough analysis with a good scanner and chassis examination for rust is needful before even making an offer.

Kind of odd, NO response from the Original Poster to all of the responses?

Kevin, can you raise the price by $6000. It will make me feel my roadster is more valuable.
