I just bought a tool off of amazon that should have done it. However the Allen key part was too long to stick into the top release. You would be better off getting a bicycle 10 mm and a 6 mm Allen key. I will be retuning this to amazon.

nope, returning this to amazon
Hopefully wasn't the one shown above, will look at this option thx
You are new, welcome to the forum. Please do not post technical or other information that is inaccurate. A strait wrench will not move the pawl far enough to pop the lid before reaching it's end of travel. Additionally, thick wrenches will scratch the finish, there is a reason the original tools are thin and curved. I realize MANY on the internet claim it works - probably Coupe owners jealous of us Roadster guys.

We just saw off the excess from the hex key. Hack saws work well for htat. @Panamamike : If you don't like that option, just carry a hex key. That's what I do, I have the factory tool (which had no hex key) and a metric hex wrench together in the glove box - I'm ready to go. Fun fact: The orignal tool had no hex key as it was "An emergency top tool" and the manual tells you to raise the top without latching the bow - and then to go to a dealer for an expensive fix.
First, dealers do not support the car anymore. Second, doing a full manual operation is not that hard:
If you try to use the flat wrench that @xintersecty suggests, you will see why the tool is curved at the end.
Yes he is absolutely right about that one. My tool came from the previous owner and while it works it's not great. I will be making my own tool or look again on ebay. Thanks for your advice @pizzaguy !

I edited my post as I was being far too redundant. I tend to repeat myself and it confuses people, altho that is certainly not my intent.
Watch the video, shows how to use a long 10mm offset open end wrench and 6 mm allen wrench to open the top or eBay has a Mercedes tool that will work part number A2088990080
Thx, I ordered the Mercedes tool. Btw is there a trick to opening the trunk? Can't seem to get.it.ooen.
Regards,
Mike
Do a search with Google on top/trunk issues. If the cycle did not complete when the top was last put up or down, the trunk is locked with the top-controller-operated electric lock. This is a lock most of us have disabled, because you CAN NOT open the trunk if the cycle does not complete. Look for the thread "Trunk Lid Jammed", which I started in 2009 when I got locked out of my trunk, I was as lost as you. Disable that lock as soon as you get a chance.
One way to PERHAPS make the PTCM unlock the trunk (never worked for me but it does for some) is to start the engine and press and hood the top button in either the RAISE or LOWER position (if top is up, press RAISE, if top is down press LOWER) for about 10, 20 seconds, I cannot remember how long. If you listen CLOSELY you might be able to hear the cam move. If that does not do it, you must remove the passenger side tag light assembly (it pops out, DO NOT remove the lens screws) and press on the cam with a screwdriver and pop the trunk.
This is from the web I have not had to do this yet. I think it's something similar to PizzaGuy method
"here is a simple backdoor method to unlock the trunk for the roadster, try this first before trying to release the locking arm through the right license plate light opening.
With the ignition “On” press the “Top Down “ button. While holding the button turn off ignition and hold button 10 seconds. Trunk should unlock"

THAT is the procedure, not the one I posted. (Tho I swear some say what I said worked for them, but I've never had much luck with either.)
