...regarding aftermarket *****, I had a few thoughts. To put this car into reverse, one has to pull the lever upwards, then shift it over and up to get it into reverse. I imagine that a lot of aftermarket ***** (which are often secured in place using allen bolts) would slip off or move, when being yanked upwards to put the car into reverse. In my previous two cars, I always had an aftermarket ****. But then, the shift pattern was always a traditional "H" pattern, and I didn't need to pull up on the lever to get it into reverse.

I suppose it would be too easy to make a joke out of this, but I will just say that I am glad you do not pull too hard.

I suspect that the nut at the bottom of the **** which is under the boot is not tight enough.
See the sheet from the shop manual I have attached.

my wholesale cost. $115. i can provide you the info to my local dealer and the parts managers name if you have an interest...he is a personal friend. another board member is ordering one from his this week.
I unscrewed the base and pulled up but it doesn't come off. There is a silver looking pin running through it. does that have anything to do with it? I am afraid i'm gonna break something.
Suggestions?

its tight so you should be able to see the dividing grove with the naked eye. grasp it and turn it clockwise. It should come free and you should be able to let it drop down. The rest should be easy. You can check here on somilar threads if you have anymore trouble.

Found something to my liking at Autozone.. Totally reversable to stock. Had to mod shifter **** to get it to sit low enough for my likes.
