Default Roof Fail and the trunk is now locked

Greetings

This is a weird one for me.
I started my 2005 today and when I went to put the roof down, no joy
Sequence of events
1. Started the carr
2. Released the roof lock and pushed up 6-9"
3. Windows went down as normal
4. Red light came on right away
5. Pushed the down switch and got constant blinking light and constant beeping
6 Pulled the top down relatched and raised windows

Now I get out go the the trunk and the trunk is locked!!!!

That's new , never happened before. I had the top down the day prior , no issues at all

I,ve practiced manually raising and lowering the top quite a few times. I do not know if I can try that with the trunk being locked

FYI
There is a fluid leak from a cylinder somewhere, left side of trunk. I refill the resvoir maybe twice , three times a year. Been working for a few years that way
The trunk lock thing has never happened before

Please help

from crossfire site : Roadster? Turn key on, hold top down button and turn key off. Hold button a few seconds after key off. Trunk should pop open.

You started the cycle but the cycle did not complete. Step one in the cycle is to lock the trunk for the duration of the movement of the top.
See post 2 to get the trunk to unlock. Next step is to find out why the top won't move.

I,ve practiced manually raising and lowering the top quite a few times. I do not know if I can try that with the trunk being locked

Oh, so you have low fluid. The top will not move with low fluid, if the tank is low enough, this is what you get (altho it could be a bad "top open" or "divider" sensor as well).

Put the top down manually and see if it will come up by the switch, a top that goes UP but not DOWN is caused by either the top open or divider switch being bad, as those switches are checked before the top is allowed to do down but are NOT CHECKED for raising a top.

Thread will now be moved to the Roadster forum, where there are numerous threads about top issues like this one.

The trunk will not pop open, it should UNLOCK, as this is the way to "end the cycle" which unlocks the trunk and releases all pressure from the lines and cylinders.

Worked perfectly , first shot Thank you so much!!!
I knew in worst case scenarios the the trunk would lock in between cycles, but it's never happened before.
Now I know to check and fill the reservoir....

It is not "locking between cycles", the trunk locks in the INSTANT you hit the button to put the top down or up.
It unlocks only when the cycle completes. (Or, when you use the trick he described.)

The reason they lock the trunk (and I know this sounds kind of obsessive) is that they did not want there to be any way the trunk could be opened while the lid was up, as this would cause the two items to hit one another, causing cosmetic damage to both.
