Default Factory Rubber

Hi All,
I am picking up my new three year old SRT from Chicago Speedway Motors next week. I am just wondering if anyone knows if the factory sent these cars out with winter rubber for the northern states, and summer performance rubber for the southern?? This place has enough of them in stock that if there is a choice, I will get them to switch for summer treads.

Thanks.

Jasbro,
The Continental all-season tires were a $195 option available to all. Strange that you would have to pay extra for all-season versus the Michelin performance tires, but I bought mine in Florida and it came with the Continentals already on it. I did not bother to switch and have been happy with their performance. Not sure how they would perform in Chicago snow. What part of the city are you from? I am originally from Oak Lawn, but now live in San Antonio.
Enjoy your new car.

Kevin

Thanks for the information. It IS weird to hear you need to spend money to slow down to winter rubber. I am actually from Vancouver, BC, just north of the border from Seattle. I am flying down, and taking some time for the drive home, planning to trace most of the old Route 66, then leisurely motor mostly number One up the coast from Santa Monica. It will be a nice way to see some traditional American scenery, and break the new puppy in! Thanks again for the input.

I've driven my Limited roadster as my "only" ride through two Chicago winters using the Continental tires. They are just okay in the snow. I think they are great on dry/wet pavement. I don't have a comparison for the summer tires but I find no handling problems or the tires not gripping on the road. I do not drive the car on the track where I might need extra adhesion.

In other words take the Continentals if you plan on driving in all weather. Good luck with your new ride.

The ASP tires work O.K. in the colder weather. Just make sure to turn off the traction control in the snow! I found that out the hard way. (5 minutes going around in a circle!)

I just recently, after going through two sets of the Conti ASPs, put on a
set of summer performance tires. I selected the Goodyear F1s as the
replacement. After about 5,000 miles, I'm about ready to switch back to
the Continentals. From my experience, I believe that the ASP Conti's hold
a line better than the F1s on dry pavement. I think it is about dead even
on wet roads. I wonder if the Conti Contact 3 performance tires would
have been a better choice.

Talk about sticky, the Conti ASP tires could be heard each morning as
they came un-glued from the garage floor. The F1s appear to break
traction going around corners that I never heard a peep out of the Contis
from.

Coyote,

Great timing, thanks very much. I just heard from the dealer that they all came to him with the Contis, and I was feeling sorry for myself until I read your post. They sound like a much better compromise for everyday use, and it sounds like if I don't like them I can sand them off pretty quickly with an itchy right foot. I am still humbled by the numbers this thing pulls, almost 1 G lateral, and 0-100 in under 13 sec. What a sweetie!

Hi Wade,

Looks like I am heading down on Monday night, so will so hello to him for you. He sounds like a good guy, and has arranged all the temp permits I needed to drive it home myself.

Hope you are enjoying your new wheels!
