Glad you're okay; that's the main issue.

The lady in question should be stripped of her license to drive and should do a few days and nights in jail, too. Her behavior was inexcusable. Actions like this should have severe consequences for their irresponsible actors, not for their innocent victims. I hope you are made entirely whole here, as well as as much more as you can get. Good luck. We're all thankful that it wasn't worse.

I have done this twice, I always say 5K-7K...do not settle until, they give you loss of value... and watch what you sign...when iys fixed take it to carmax, they will give you a idea of what it is worth now... put that against the KBB value...

Bet her Honda looks like an accordian.

My understanding of insurance coverage is that you are entitled to a rental vehicle equivalent to your car. So if this is true, get a Corvette or some other high performance two seater. Her insurance will have to pay and her company will recoup the expense with a premium increase on her.

Then again I could be wrong but still bet her car looks like an accordian.

yea, her car looked like it hit a brick wall. I'm still amazed at how little damage was done to my car.

Atom... Glad you're OK, but the poor baby... hope you find a good shop and the insurance fight isn't to much. Did she get a ticket, for being stupid? Wish CO would change the Cell phone rule while driving. We got hit in Westminster last summer, T-boned our 2 week old (other) car. Same thing, kid on a cell phone ran the red light.

uh...i don't think so.

there are people on this site that can't get a Crossfire as a loaner/rental from a Chrysler dealer when they take their car in for service...you really think an insurance company is going to rent someone a 'Vette?

There's a difference between a rental provided for warranty work by Chrysler and a rental provided for insurance reasons.

My understanding is that if your car is out of commission via an accident caused by another driver, then the other driver's insurance has to pay for a rental that is comparable to your car. Now I could be misinterpreting this - say your Dodge Charger R/T is rear ended, insurance may look at a Maxima as a comparable performance sedan (it's not but this is just an example). Or insurance may look at the Charger as a large sedan and only approve of a Malibu as a suitable rental because it also is a large sedan. So for Atom's Crossfire, he could argue that he is entitled to a performance two seater and wind up with a Corvette, or insurance may only spring for a two seater period and Atom winds up with a Soltice. More than likely he'll get neither since cars like these aren't common rentals. But he could argue for one and also for addtional compensation if he gets something else.

Now if your own insurance company is covering the accident then you'll get whatever you signed up for. In my case I won't get a rental because I declined rental coverage. I have a second car to use as a substitute for my Crossfire if I get into an accident.

As for warranty work, Chrysler only needs to provide you with a loaner car. So said loaner car could be anything, though you'd think that Chrysler would provide loaner Crossfires just to expose more potential customers to them. Then again, most people getting loaners need something bigger.

i was a licensed agent for six years. from what i've seen, and based on customer complaints about their old company, it ain't happening. the company that would go for that demand would be the exception to the norm.

OUCH!!
So very glad you are mostly OK. I am DISAPPOINTED the air bag did not deploy. At 25 MPH you could have gotten head injuries from colliding with the window (unles your tall enough where your head is above the window like mine). I wonder if you should report this to your dealer, I think it bears investigation because maybe your entire SRS system is malfunctioning.

Hope you enjoy(ed) New Years Eve

So if I was T-boned in a Viper I could be saddled with a minivan as a rental? That would be completely unacceptable to me and I would squawk long and loud until I got something more suitable. A soccer mom with 5 kids would need a minivan, not a Kia. A landscaper would need a truck, not a RX-8. So I think that since AtomHeart has a need for a Crossfire then he is entitled to a comparable car especially since the at fault driver will eventually pay for it.

The good ole crumple zone in action. Serves her right. Not only did she get the worst of it, she got to look at it. Now everytime she sees a crushed soda can she'll think "Oh my poor Honda!". Everytime she sees a wadded up paper she'll think "My Honda, my Honda!". She'll be traumatized for life. For life! Or maybe she's thinking "God how I hated that Honda, now I can get something better - like a Crossfire!".

Gee, I haven't had anything to drink and yet look at what I'm writing. I'm beginning to scare myself.

Mr. F,

You have me wondering now on how insurance companies handle rentals now a days. I'm going to check with mine, AAA of So. Cal.

And as for scotch, yuck!

Glad you came out of the accident with minor body injury (hopefully just bruises). That is good news.

The car can be fixed and things will work out for you. Keep up the great attitude even though it must be very difficult.

CoupeGirl is right. It's called a "Diminished Value Claim" got to exercise it when I had my '05 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.
A lady rearended me while I was stopped at a redlight. Totalled her car. Only 3600$ damage to the Jeep. All cosmetic too. Before State Farm handed me the check I told them I wanted to file a diminished value claim, did all the paperwork there and was given $6,650.
Gotta love labor rates... Ended up lifting the LJ 5.5", tires, winch, etc. Good times. Took off all the stuff when I traded it in for my old Rubicon. Trade in what was I owed, then put most of that stuff on.

Damn, dude. My sympathies. I'm glad you're OK, though. That is my biggest nightmare. It's such a shame that uncaring a$$holes ruin something so sweet as an SRT-6 with 3,300 miles on it.

On the good side, get it fixed, sell it, and buy a newer one with less miles!

Ouch. I am glad you seem to be unhurt. Watch the next couple of days though. Your back, neck, etc. may be sore after the wreck.
Hope your new year gets better.
Take care.

That's really too bad man. You keep refering to the other driver as a "girl". How old is she? I'm guessing a teenager? That does take talent and true cell skills to plow into you and not drop the phone! The first thing I would have done is take her phone and thrown it against the curb... CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW???

I'm a hot head, she would have been in tears by the time I got done chastising her! At least it was a Honda that hit you and not something built higher grade materials. I saw a CR-V get TOTALED by rear ending a Buick at 15 MPH. The air bags didn't even need to come out and the damn Honda was DONE! $12,000 in damage at 15 MPH? No wonder our insurance is so high.

That is a sorry sight to behold, but it doesn't look terminal. I think she'll be okay. Did you drive her home? It looks like you could have. If the door still opens, you're probably ok. Hit up her insurance company for $10,000 Depreciation and stick to your guns. I don't think you'll get a Crossfire as a rental, but I wouldn't accept anything less than a luxury brand vehicle of some description. If they hand you the keys to an Aveo, tell them what to do with themselves...

Sad sight to see, but at least your ok. The doors on these cars are beefy to say the least, noticed it the first time I opened and closed one. Looks like the door was mightier than the Honda in this case. Hope it all works out for you.
