Greetings! Looking to join the ranks
Howdy, everyone!
I've driven sports and performance cars since I first got my license. Other than cars purchased primarily for my wife, I've never owned an auto trans vehicle. But....my legs are finally getting old enough (I'm 53) to not appreciate pushing a clutch through hours of rush hour traffic (my commute is murder).
My current main driver is a Honda S2000. A wonderfully focused and precise driver's car, but even though I consider myself a pretty hard core enthusiast, I am going to throw in the towel and get something with a bit more in the way of creature comforts, while still having enough perfomance to be interesting.
I have considered a few vehicles, but it seems that the SRT6 is the combination I'm after. I wish they still made them! I'm curruntly perusing 4 in my area; 3 roadsters and a coupe. I really want a roadster but the coupe is very low mileage and a great deal on top of that.
I will report in with any progress and study up on the forums in the meantime. I already have been lurking for a couple of weeks already while making up my mind.
My current vehicles:
The Torqueless Wonder: 2002 Honda S2000; stock other than the body kit (bought it that way) and a Borla catback to replace the astoundingly loud and nasty sounding Tanabe Racing Medallion exhaust that also was on it when I bought it with only 7K miles on the odometer. It sounded like a Civic from Hell.

The MulletMobile: (Semi-retired) 1997 30th Anniversary Z28; highly modified suspension, supercharged (462 Hp, 420 Tq on DynoJet). I don't intend to ever part with this one and have kept all of the pieces to return it to showroom stock condition. I bought it new on my son's 5th Birthday and my intention is to give it to him on his 25th (2017)...IF I think he has grown up enough not to kill himself in it.

I love Koni shocks! I have Sport Double Adjustables on the "MulletMobile" (97 Z28). Are the stock dampers particularly stinky, or just average factory stuff? (Looks like more forum study is in order.)
As stated by our Mike-in-Orange, the Crossfire is a very 'tossable' car.
Having been on the track several times with mine (road courses only), I would say it has some understeer, but that can be easily fixed. (By two things, stiffer rear suspension and the Phantom Grip for better traction distribution) These are on my list for this year.
The other upgrade I would recommend before it becomes necessary is swapping out the OEM intercooler pump for the Johnson CM30 marine pump. (IC pump failure is a commone occurance)
Lastly, if you are ever going to take the car to the track (Road Courses or Auto Cross), I would suggest upgrading the brake fluid to something like Motul 600 (which is what I run). Better pads will also be a must, I run Porterfield R4 compound at the track.
Hope that helps... good luck in your search for that SRT6!
Cheers!

Get the SRT-6 and you'll never look back. The roadsters are a little softer ride than the coupes, so if you were interseted in a roadster - I'd go that route (I did
) and there are a few around with very low milage. There are 2 on ebay right now one has less than 2K miles.
After I got my first Automatic I was sold and have no intentions of ever driving stick again - I'm on ly 37.

The ride will be rougher than you might be expecting but it is a serious step up from the Honda.
The SRT6's autostick makes for a gradual transition coming off a lifetime of stick shifts. At least it keeps your right hand busy. It's like those nicotine gums for smokers.
I said I would report back in my first post and here is the report. I looked at a few and test drove a couple over the last week or so. Yesterday, I brought home an Aero Blue Roadster. I think it is just what I was looking for in terms of having the fun factor of my S2000, but with more refinement and less of a hard edged, single purpose feel.
I know folks have complained about the ride, but to someone who's been driving an S2K for 4 years it feels like a luxo-cruiser!
The ride is not much harsher than my wife's Suburu Legacy GT. The SRT6 isn't as flickable as the S2K but it isn't as twitchy either. It is great to have power available anytime you press the throttle as opposed to constantly rowing the shifter and pounding the clutch pedal to stay in the narrow 6K to 9k RPM VTEC powerband of the S2000. I am going to miss that 9K RPM scream a bit...but the SRT6 supercharger whine will help me get over that.
I have been married for 18 years and owned many cars during that time. This is the first one that my wife didn't immediatly hate when I brought it home. She actually likes the looks of it and is looking forward to driving it. (She has NEVER driven one of my cars before in all of those 18 years.)
My 15 year old son, while sad to see the Honda go, also loves it. I let him drive it briefly (with me in the passenger seat) and he was jazzed for hours. He started talking about getting a non-SRT Crossfire for him when he gets his license in July. (Good luck with that.) I had forgotten that a couple of years ago, he developed a paper for school about the Genesis of the Crossfire and the unique way it was conceived, designed and manufactured by Daimler-Chrysler. He probably knows more about Crossfires than some owners.
I'm looking forward to many years of enjoyment with my new Roadster and to getting to know my fellow owners here on the Forums better. I have tossed some photos of the car that I purloined from Auto Trader until I can find the time to take some decent ones. But it isn't like noone has seen a stock Aero Blue Roadster on this Forum before.

The car has nice torque and with a simple pulley swap and ecu tune it can be quite fast. The ride is a little stiff but actually quite nice for a sports car. Some people expect it to ride like a 80's cadillac eldorado with "cruise ship road couch" ride quality for some reason lmao. It should ride a little nicer than your s2000, they do ride a little rough but still not bad at all. It is a freaking 2 seat sports car after all and SHOULD have a stiffer suspension since that is the entire point of the car.
I found mine with only 767 miles on it, there are still some good deals out there!
Love the yellow on your s2000, looks great!

We're about the same age and have a similar car history so I can confidently say you will develop such a sh*t-eating grin after getting used to this beast. Until MB made the SLR, the 320SLK AMG was the fastest accelerating car in their range and there's still precious little to touch it. It just looks better with the Crossfire clothes on it. Sorry MB guys, it really is the better head-turner.
Get a swear-box and stick it to the passenger side door, then take your friends for a drive. You'll soon have anough money to pay for a new set of rear tyres, which you'll need after about 12k miles
