SRT as daily driver
I'm no longer into saving cars, I buy it to drive it...
I've bee driving my 02 M3 vert daily for the past year and a half.
Well daily from march to november here in delaware and intermittently over the winter. I have another bmw coupe for the winter, and a pickup for snow/ice.
I've always liked the crossfire and the srt is a bargain out there.
thinking about a low milage coupe, but would be driving daily. and i do a fair bit of driving.
I drive 20 mi to work each way and usually once or twice a day go from place to place. I put between 300-500 miles per week on the car.
about 1/2 back roads, about 1/2 highway including 5 lanes of 95. How is the little car on the highway. The ride, how does it feel, etc. darty or stable, big rigs, is it super choppy with the very short wheelbase?
I got rid of my z3 (2000 M car) because was a little scary on the highway, and a little darty, esp where the road had any truck grooving, etc. The M3 however is a bit too 'big' for me. Drives fine on the road, and is fun to wind up, but just never feels small and fun to me. Perhaps a little to civilized. I'm now looking at the Z4M, a z06, or 911 (never had 911 so leaning that way). But for my money I can save 10 grand or more and get a super low milage srt as I can see lots of your guys are truly weekend warriors...
Coupe only, unless i got an extreme deal on a vert. Doing my highway driving I don't seem to have gotten as much use of the convertible top as I do say the coupe with sunroof and simply dropping the windows.
Let me know your experiences....
Thanks in advance...
Joe

Me and my srt have been together for 51000 miles , she always starts , she always gets me where i have to be safely even when I'm driving like a fool in all types of weather, 2nd gear is one of the greatest joys known to man, and she will let you hold your head high against pretty much anything out there thats not a over 90000 all from a chrysler !

Get an SRT and throw a CAI on her and you will have a perma-grin. The handling characteristics of this car are great whether in town or on the highway. This is definitely the best bang for the buck on the market today. Go for it, you won't be disappointed.
69K miles on mine and I can't wait to drive it everyday. Mine is not an SRT so the only thing I am lacking is more power but I am working on that. I loved my Mini Cooper S but the Crossfire is a better car. If I ever wear this car out I just hope I can find another. There is no way you can get more car for the money. With the SRT you are paying Chrysler money for a Mercedes SLK32 AMG.
Hey Lantana, I have to say that the more I see your new wheels, the more that I like them. I noticed that you put the AMG center caps on them like mine. I get lots of complements on them. Good luck with your V8 conversion. Just a week away right?

My driving "schedule" is very similar to yours, though my drive to work is a bit
longer at 35 miles each way. About 1/3rd of that trip is country/backroads and
the rest is down I-75 through Atlanta. I've been making that trip every work day
since I bought the car in '04 and have racked up over 76,000 miles. I've also
taken this car to my old home of Va. Beach a few times.
All that said, I've always been happy with the way the SRT-6 rides. The only
place where I've had any discomfort was on portions of I-95 in NC and I-64
around the Norfolk, Va. area. In each of these places, there are expansion
joints in the roadway that you hit every second or so, for long stretches, and
this can really jar your teeth. However, I'll say this. I've always found these
sections of highway be uncomfortable, no matter what I've driven over them
with.
It is true that the Crossfire, in general, likes smooth, fresh laid blacktop, but
for the most part the rough roads are not much worse than in any other sports
car. If any. This is my daily driver, and will be until the wheels fall off (and
then I'll get a new set of wheels to mount up
).

Other than the folding hard top there is very little difference between the cars except exterior styling of course.
have you bought your engine yet? i saw a article were a racer put a slr engine into a slk55 mucho power!
I don't use my SRT coupe as a daily driver. Nor do I endorse doing so.
Reason is cuz I drive my SRT roadster on the days I don't drive the coupe!
