Hey guys not sure if you know this but the trannys we have, have a protective overflow drain. If you do end up putting to much fluid in the tranny during use and when it becomes hot it will dump the excess fluid.

Virtually all automatic transmissions have a vent through which they equalize case pressure.
Can’t in good conscience recommend establishing proper ATF level via “dump[ing] the excess fluid.”

I understand that I mean by no means am i going to just go dump 10 quarts of fluid and say the tranny will dump it out. Just saying they dont have to be spot on. BTW thanks for that chart I need to check my fluid and I couldn't find that chart.

No worries, we knew what you meant.

Thank you, waldig! Was solving some jobsite HVAC woes recently and honestly thought “what would Woody do?”

I had bought ATF 4 for Mopars tranny and had to drain and refill with whatever MB dealership had for ther latest specs. Its all backward compatible and the latest has better additives, and its cheaper at MB than at Chrysler/Dodge.

I'm a little late to the discussion, but here is where I bought my transmission fluid and filter kit online, plus the adapter plug housing I needed to fix my leak.

Because my AT is not very smooth i decided to change the atf oil and did a little research.
Here is the result:

The OEM atf supporter for Mercedes-Benz is FUCHS oils.
The recommended FUCHS atf oil for the 722.6 XF transmission is FUCHS TITAN ATF 4134

There is also a Website where you can search FUCHS lubricants for your car:
FUCHS Lubricant Advise

There is also an interesting way to change the atf oil. It was invented by Tim Eckart.
Because the 722.6 transmission has no drain plug for the torque converter, he is spilling the complete converter with a pump system, uses a cleaning fluid to spill out all impurities and fills in new atf oil.
He's also using FUCHS TITAN oils. Clients are very happy with the results.

Website Tim Eckart (german language):

Youtube Video (german language, but i think you'll understand how it works)

There's more to a fluid change on these cars than just the fluid. Just get the kit from Rob.

I'm a firm believer in supporting our Crossfire Vendors as they provide a valuable support service to our marque. If the price difference between one of our preferred vendors & another source is 10-15%, I'll buy from our preferred vendor. But in this case, there are considerably less costly (35%) alternatives to the kit provided by Needswings (sorry Rob). Now, the kits aren't exactly the same as Rob provides a couple of additional parts, but the kit listed on Amazon is worth looking at.

2001-20014 SLK320 5-Speed AutoStick Transmission Service Kit

And Ravenol is listed as a certified (tested & approved) transmission fluid meeting M-B's 236.10 specification. Interesting that Ravenol is shown on the label as a Semi-Synthetic fluid.

While I do agreed I only posted rob's link in case somebody searches and finds this topic and just wants a 1 click purchase. With Rob's kit you dont have to worry about looking for anything, else it is all there. I used it when I did a fluid change on my srt-6.
