It is the younger generation that will help keep my job. They can't be hired... and I can't deal with them.
Those kids were wise cracks... plain and simple. End of story. I don't care what other children think. I am not buying it!
The current play I am in, Disney's "Camp Rock" is a musical about summer camp. At 50, I am the oldest in the cast by 30 years! The rest of the cast is aged 20 to 8.
This production has renewed my faith in the crop of kids coming up, which, I must say, I thought was about as lost as blackcrossfire07 thinks they are.
The director had to take last thursday night off, and left me in charge with only one parent in attendance. We had around 20 kids in there, I was a bit nervous that I didn't have the patience to deal with them - I was wrong. They were better behaved than normal, as the Director left he said, "Now, everyone, behave 'cause Mark isn't as tolerant as I am".
I guess the kids took him seriously! But the fact is, they are all good kids and a pleasure to be around. THey do push Brad a little, but I learned thursday that this is only because they KNOW they can get away with it - they don't know me (and I have a habit of walking around looking kinda stern and tough). The point is, when called to, they behave.
I dreaded working with kids and almost passed on this production. I am so glad that I let Brad talk me into it.
(Of course, the fact that the 20 year old female lead is a BABE has nothing to do with it, so dont' give me no crap about it.)

I wrote you a PM trying to take this offline, but you did not answer. At first I thought you just might have had a bad experience, but now I think you are simply a lunatic or maybe this is the way you get your jollies. Either way, you are a moron!
Quite frankly I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK!

I'm not going to lie here, I tend to have a stance similar to blackcrossfire07 regarding the younger generation. Yes, I'm 22 and still young but seriously, these kids are a joke. There are good, respectable teenagers out there (and I have no doubt that the people looking at your car were sincere) but they're not the majority. I've worked since I was 13 years old and worked my entire way through college. Find me another kid that worked that hard and you'll see respect given without question. The sheer amount of laziness in the younger generation that has had everything handed to them makes me want to throw up.
At least they're not blind and can recognize a good car!
Its funny that I just saw this, I don't have a crossfire, but when I test drove the SRT6 about 2 months ago 2 or 3 cars with kids would pull up to me on the highway all looking and giving the thumbs ask. Kind of made me want the car even more ha

A couple people on here said they give 15 year old strangers respect. Since when does a 15 year old kid deserve respect? Shouldn't we teach them to earn respect?
Kids today don't memorize multiplication tables, write script... heck they can't even read a clock even when the markers are labeled with numbers! They have no idea what a clock with hands mean! They don't even know how to ride a bike. When I was growing up I wanted a bike because it was freedom and I could go up to the corner and buy baseball cards! The parents today are just as messed up as the kids. They teach their kids that they deserve everything off the bat... they don't have to earn anything!
They call them generation "Y" for a reason... because they always ask "why". Tell them to do something and they ask "why". How about because I am your boss and I told you to! The parents never taught them to respect authority. Never taught them the value of a dollar. Everything was thrown on their laps! And when they got in trouble with the cops, the parents quickly run to their defense and attack the cops. When I was growing up my parents would kick the crap out of me if the situation was bad enough to involve the cops or even a teacher at school! The kids today can't even sign their own name or tell you what time it is.... these are kids with college degrees and I have to ask them where they went to school.
This is what I call the dumbing down of America! I see the sexual inuendos and stupidity in Super Bowl commercials and this is supposed to be a family event. That is when everything seems to make sense to me... that American families are not the same as they used to be (even compared to 10 years ago).
Anyone that does not agree or understand what I am saying needs to check themselves! The world is unfolding around your eyes! Don't be part of the dumbing down in America. Wake up and take a dose of reality and see what is going on around you. My children will be raised properly and will be a success in the real world. I can guarantee that! Are you preparing your kids in the same way? or will they be knocked up at 15 with no education and dumber than a doorknob? Will they get fired from their job after 6 months because they questioned the boss? Granted there are good kids out there but the majority are as I described!
As for the people that think these kids were being honest and sincere by asking "can I shake your hand?"... don't be so gullable. These kids don't deserve your respect until they can man up and show some respect. They need to earn my respect first... and walking up to me with a wise A question like that is not the way to get respect from me. I see right through the crap!

Like I said, until "Camp Rock", I didn't think there was ANY hope out there. Sure, some of the parents at my church get it, but not many. Even in the church, respect for authority or deity is not there.
If anyone does not think that American has been dumbed down, try hiring an entry level person these days.
We have had to specifically tell office staff that "texting grammer" is not acceptable business communications. The boss has resorted to a 40 year old man as office/shipping/accounts clerk because he can't find someone in their 20's who can do the job. It's costing about $15,000 more per year in wages, but it's worth it - this place really runs better now!Hire the old(er) - the young are such a waste of space.
And, again, this is not to say that all 20 year olds are like this, but the good ones are few and far between. If you find one, latch on to them!!!!!!!!!!

There are good kids and bad kids. I 100% agree that these kids at first were probably trying to be funny, Ive seen many times kids go up to other guys and want to shake their hand because they have a gorgeous girlfriend, same thing, they are trying to be funny. But to say they are bad kids because of this is completely wrong.

Dear god. My girlfriend coaches middle school basketball and I can no longer sit anywhere near parents. Even hearing about how much the parents complain because their kid didn't play just shows how much they'd rather hand something to their kid rather than have the kid work harder and get better.
As far as college goes, I feel like this is why bachelor degrees don't hold much weight anymore. The kids are simply spoiled beyond belief. Here I can drive onto MSU and see dozens of kids driving daddy's BMW and here I am cutting it close just buying my own Crossfire (my dream car for christ sake). The fact that almost all of those same kids qualified and use Bridge Cards (a Michigan money allowance from the Government for food) makes me want to go on a rampage. These kids will graduate and fall right on their faces when the family payroll runs dry (if it ever does).
However, if there's one thing I believe, it's that everyone deserves respect. I don't care if you're 15 or 95. If you choose to act like an idiot, you sacrifice that right.

Do i have respect for my bosses who bark off the orders and make 100k a year? No I have 0 respect for them. To come to me and complain how sales are down and we only made 150k this month, while they are paying me 8.40 an hr is a complete insult to me and my intelligence, it does the exact opposite and makes me not give a **** about the business or doing anything for them.
But Im' not sure anything has changed. In 1980, I was making $3.75 an hour as a 20 year old - I was doing Cable TV installs and felt SO ripped off. But, it was an entry level job, and I had moved on in 16 months!
YOU are in a different league, when you finish that degree you can move on and accomplish something. Try not to focus on today -this is temporary and you will soon be able to move on and never look back.
As for my assertion that the young are worthless - do you REALLY think that someone doing what YOU are doing is included in that assessment?
Most of today's school aged students will be working with technologies that do not yet exist or barely exist. Judging them by what "we" were taught is like the generation before us complaining that none of us could speak Latin.
The world is rapidly changing and the next generation will face challenges we can not imagine, but as all generations have managed to do, they will find solutions and keep this country great.
All the kids at my school, I work at a middle school, love my car. They think I am rich...

I don't blame the kids or say they are bad. I blame the parents for their behavior.... not the kids. Kids goof around and I get that. But at some point they need to get serious and that is not happening with our younger generation. My only issue is when people blindly think these particular kids were being honest and genuine but my common sense says they were smart cracks! At some point they need to shape up or ship out.

I am really glad to see I am not the only person that thinks this way. I knew I wasn't crazy!

True leaders build a TEAM that all works as one well-oiled machine for the single cause of whatever the business is promoting. They provide incentive to succeed, because let's face it: a business is more successful when the employees actually invest in the motions they're going through. How does an employee convince himself to invest? When the company invests in him. You truly get what you pay for. As long as you, the employee, prove profitable, you can name your price.
Bosses, on the other hand, bark orders at individuals expected to carry an unrealistic burden at a static level of compensation.
You need to find a new gig. But in the meantime, continue doing your best because a man's work is his signature on life. A man skillful in his work will stand before kings, not obscure men.

If you are not 'the man', John. That whole post applies to my boss. (And the new gig part applies to me.)

Cheers,
My 16 year old daughter gets her share of respect (from mom and me) because she's one of the better kids...not just saying that because Im her dad. She deeply cares about her hs GPA and has to take cr@p from teachers that clearly have NO respect for children. Still she fights even harder and maintains high honors, has several goals in action for college, and is just Good.
Now if someone was to take the opinion that she doesnt deserve respect cause shes a kid I'd have a SERIOUS problem with them. We teach respect and reward it and it produces a noble child that has respect for others she meets.
Please dont limit yourself by lumping kids into snot nosed brats that dont deserve your respect. They are people too. Now if we were talking about a disrespectful 8 -12 year old I would agree with you.
On the same note, kid or adult, you treat me with no respect once and game over
