Angry need New Trany?!?! HELP

Check engine light came on so I took it to a Chrysler dealer.
I just got a call that it had the following error codes:
P0730 improper Gear ratio
P0715 Input speed sensor mismatch
And engaged gear imposable or Trans Slipping (no P-Code)

He told me there was a minor trans leak at the electrical connection but the fluid levels were fine.

He said they could take the trans out tare it apart and look to see if they could visually locate a problem. (Drop trans, tare down. resemble and reinstall about $650)
He also said based on the codes they are 90% sure they wont be able to visually find a problem.

They recommend replacing the trans (rebuilt about $3500 +labor, New $9000 +labor)
WTF!!!

Has anyone had this problem?
Are these prices legitimate?

Any advice?
Thanks guys your opinion is much appreciated.

First, I would take it to and independent MB shop and have it checked. Chrysler shops are not known for their knowledge of this car. Is the car drivable??

Second, it sounds like there may be a wheel speed sensor failure. Dont know if this would cause all the symptoms, but I would have that fixed and cleared before I had someone tearing into my transmission....

Keep us posted...

I went to an MB shop before taking it to the Chrysler dealer. And the ***** in the MB service center wouldn't even stand up and shake my hand or look me in the face "we only work on Mercedes Benz"

dis connect batt ,and drain elect. systen by opening the door 3 to 5 times with the batt disconnected,, then connect batt. and if the car drives normal for the first block or so ,,make sure you get into 3 gear if you do the tranny is ok it would then be the sensors jim

We have an INDEPENDENT shop near here that works only on MB, Porshe and BMWs.

They smiled at me when I walked in and told them I needed someone to work on my Crossfire. Find an INDEPENDENT shop - not an MB dealer.

(I took mine to have the fan re-programmed - they knew about the trick of how to do it with the MB tester that supposedly does not support the XF).

Did the check engine light come on after the wheels spinning from a wet surface or hard acceleration? If so willing to bet your fluid is low from the leaking connector plug even though they say the level is fine. Low fluid level will cause all those problems. My car threw those codes when the wheels spun form losing traction when mine was leaking.

Yea the check engine light came on after wheel spin on a wet surface.
so to have the adapter plug replaced they want $280 + $105 to do diagnostic.

Sounds like I should have them clear the codes and replace the adapter plug. Would you agree?

Thanks for the advice guys.

My limited auto's trans has the infamous leak.

I was thinking of fixing it myself. There is a thread here about how to perform the repair.

Go to a transmission shop ,with the part and a qt are two of the correct fluid. They should know about this

,other Chrysler autos had the same leak. Takes them about 10 to 15 min to do . Also there are many good

used transmission out there see ebay/ LKQ etc. They even show up on forum ! Go luck

You ought to call the Mercedes Dealer up and try making an appointment to have your transmission serviced in your Dodge "Sprinter" van. When he says Ok, ask him why they work on a Dodge/Mercedes, but not a Mercedes/Chrysler? Isn't that discrimination.

I had the infamous trans leak too. Never noticed it until one day there was literally about a half quart of fluid under the car. It was like the car puked ATF. But car drove fine as I was getting it to the dealer about 9 miles away. They fixed it and it was only the $100 deductible under the max care warranty. No cels and no codes as far as I know.
