Default Sc Cooling Fans

When You Are Not Moving Or Moving Slowly Air Does Not Move Over The Sc
Heat Exchanger. These Cooling Fans Have A Rating Of 400+ Cfm And I Believe They Really Make A Difference At Low Speed. Besides That They Have A Great Sound.

Just to play devils advocate... the fans might be beneficial while sitting idle, but what about while driving? How much do they restrict air flow? Do they provide sufficient air flow to make up for what they block? What are your IAT's at idle, with and without? IAT's while driving, with and without?

As far as 'they have a great sound'.... the prefect sound would be 'silent'..

The stock HE is restrictive enough. Putting those fans in front can't be helping too much at speed when you really need the air flow.
Nice idea but yer better off getting one of these!

Now THAT'S a heat exchanger!

No, that is a radiator..... that makes a great SUPER cooler for the SC intercooler...

i just happen to have one of those !! my thought on the fans is that the s/c isn't engaged below 2000 rpm anyway so the iat's wont be that high to begin with.
+1 on the super silent fans!

I was thinking of after you make a run down the strip and are stting in the staging lanes for your next heads up. I have my pump rigged to run, so why not an extra fan to actually draw some air. Charger may not be running but water/air is still hot.

with dj's supercooler my iat's are back down to 100* less than the engine temps by the time i drive down the lane to restage. on runs in excess of 150 mph my logs show iat's dropping as soon as i release the throttle the temps start to drop

A reservoir storing the cooled water would really make sense in this regard.

brianbrave did the whole project remote tank and all. end result was once the ice melted the fluid throughout the system became the same temp. not so much heat soak but becoming consistent temp throughout. no real benefits to be found.

I agree that while in the staging lanes this may help a little. However, at speed you now have 2-6" air flow restrictor plates. I also have a switch to keep the pump running at the track and when I pull the cap off my auxillary tank, the water is still definately warm after a good run. My fix is to open my drain hose to remove the warm water and add ice... super fast chill!

Talking Re: Sc Cooling Fans

I had placed 4 of the fans on my heat exchanger without any gain that I could see. This is when I designed the super cooler radiator and all the testing and videos showing it testing.

If you are in a race situation, you can speed up the fan by shunting the thermal thermistor for the engine to speed the fan up while sitting. THis additional resistor makes the computer think that the motor is hot, and speeds up the stock fan to cool it. JUST before the car is to be run the resistor is switched off and the fan slows down to normal and the engine timing is returned to normal.

I had used about 600 ohm 1/2 resistor in parallel with the engine temp sensor on a switched cable controllable from inside the car. Just saying , this is a $1.00 type of in line cooling tip that cools the engine and radiator for the supercooler or stock cooler.

Please insulate the connections carefully to protect you car and computer from a dumb short circuit.

Enjoy, Woody

I kinda did the same thing by putting a switch between the wire going to the A/C compressor. Open the switch turn on A/C and the cooling fan runs continous but the compressor does not engage

Yes, that's true but then when you start boosting again it will take longer to heat the larger volume of coolant.

Is that bit of advise a result of personal experience perhaps!?
