Fubu, what ever came of this? Did the sound ever go away? I too have this pulley but have yet to install it. I was considering an exchange for the 181 or 185 if these SC pullies are not correct in design. Is there a consensus out on this pulley yet?

As I posted earlier in this thread I had the same issue until I added a spacer to the original 1 to make the spec for the magnet to backplate correct and have had nothing but a smile on my face every since. I have about 400 miles on my setup and haven't looked back...........E C rocks and they stand behind what they sell. Ask anyone on the forum and they would agree Jerry and the gang are the best!

Well I have not added a shim yet but I did take a look on the SC and did just bend it a bit. The sound is almost gone and only appear 2 times out of 10 when cold. I will go on like this for now but maybe try adding a shim or two later on this summer. Rmaier, how many shims did you use? also, is the psk for sc from needwings needed?
I neeeded to add the thickest shim provided in the kit from E C. As for the PSK I did my own with a smooth pulley from the NAPA parts store. The guy let me go back and look at his shelf for what I wanted and I ended up with part # and put in place of the stock S/C idler and relocated the other pulley just above the alternator. The new position of the old pulley and routing the belt under the new smooth pulley lets the belt wrap more than 3/4 way around the new E C S/C pulley for virtually no slippage. I got the new pulley and a bolt w/locking nylon nut for less than $30. See my post about my custom solution if you want to go than route.

I did not spend the money for that kit so cannot say if it is better but I can tell you it does the same thing for around $30 and the same effort to install......look at the original EC thread for the SC pulley and see my posts or look at my gallery of pics under the heading sc or pulley solution and see the pics. I have had no issues with slippage or noise of any kind. I just am cheap and kind of a do it myself kind of guy so take it for what it is worth.
Good luck
Good luck
I think i will me ordering shims as well, it seems in have a similar sound, i used the one original shim. also the gaps on the spring loaded plate back of the pulley seems to be off a bit, 2mm gap on one side 4mm on the other. looks a bit odd while rotating i installed at the start of the winter, only had a few times to run it before putting the car away for the winter.
Nothing from EC, just repacing the part. When I had my original C3 next to the EC pulley i noticed three obvious differences. First the C3 pulley slides on and off smoothly while the EC pulley seamed to be a tighter fit and went on in rough steps, this could result in the EC pulley being slightly cocked. Second the C3 pulley arms are made of a much stiffer metal then the EC pulley, giving the C3 pulley more rigidity in holding and returning to the original spacing. Third, the materail used by EC did not rust, my early C3 pulley rusted up quickly after install.

Any cocking would be a result of the bearing not being pressed in square to the axis.
