Transmission surprise
2005 SRT6 Convert 40,000 miles: If you are in a large enough metro area, you should find an independent MB mechanic(or drive til you find one). I found one in Grapevine TX (DFW Metro area). Import Car Center knows these cars. He said even though maintenance book says change Trx fluid and filter at 60K, you should do it at 40K because the newer MB fluids are superior and it is worth the $400 service.
Well, I haven't had this happen to me, but I have had, like you, banged the rev-limited which causes a neutral affect. When you get the car tuned, you can have the rev-limiter changed. You can also, think you are shifting, but in the heat of things you haven't move the shift lever into the right position. What I can tell you is, it is NOT fluid related. It is electrical. You either aren't making the shift, correctly, or it isn't reading the shift, or you are hitting the limiter. Try to let the car shift itself, as once in 1st, it is going to shift to 2nd whether you shift it or not with the automatics. Now, there are times, which we all hate, when the tranny won't shift when we want it to. It seems to be lost, hesitating to shift, which seems like neutral until it finally shifts. Speedriven, and Eurocharged, have both been perfecting a tune for this condition, but reviews haven't been perfect as of yet... just my take on it...
Trust me this is a situation caused by low fluid. it is not hitting the rev limiter, as I could rev the motor, with NO drive, and had to coast to a stop, once I slowed down the car seemed to drop back into gear. I was not manually shifting either, it was in automatic mode. Took it to an independant Benz mechanic, who checked the fluid level, and stated it was a common problem, when the fluid is low.
He changed the infamous trans connector, which was leaking, topped the fluid off , and it has NEVER happened again. Coincidence, I think not. So you can chase these phantoms, or go and get the fluid checked by someone competent ..........just my 2c from someone who has actually experienced the issue

Low fluid would reduce pressure enough to cause the problem as well as other problems ALL the time. It wouldn't be it does it this time, but not the next time...it would do it all the time. I have ran Auto's my whole life going back to B&M Autos in the 70's. Valve bodies require fluid to build pressure as anything hydraulic. It is not going to be intermittant. Just my take on it..and I have had zero issues, except not shifting quick enough when I want it to, but t hat is just the programming... Unless this guy has a noticeable leak, not fluid in my opinion...
It only happens when really flogging it so it doesn't happen every time you drive it, but maybe it does happen every time you flog it.Mine happened once and I got it fixed by getting the fluid level right..........but each to their own........let the OP decide.......I've got no horse in this race........mine's fixed
Just a follow up to this post. Due to a few small transmission puddles under my car, I ended up replacing the adaptor plug and changed the transmission filter / fluid. Just before doing this I found the transmission level low (60mm) at 164 degrees..... The drain pan and magnet showed minimal metal which was a relief. No further issues. The shifting problem has NOT repeated itself. I did however manage to break off the top of the transmission drain plug apparently applying excessive force that I call "simple persuasion". Has that happened to anyone else? The screw remained intact inside of the drain pan. The screw came without further incident and I was able to get a replacement from a local junk yard, $3.00.

Hello Everyone,
My 05 SRT6 gave me a surprise today while destroying a newer Boxter off the line. The car pulled hard from first but instead of changing to second gear, it seemed to "pop" into neutral until the rev limiter caught it. I backed off the throttle and it picked up second shortly after. This is the third time it has done this and is now concerning me. I have only noticed this 2 times before over the last two years. The transmission continues to operate smoothly under normal driving circumstances. No noise, codes, leaks, smells or anything unusual.
I have read similar threads but nothing quite like my situation. I would really appreciate any feedback that any of you knowledgeable members may have.
I have already checked the transmission fluid, it's fine and at the appropriate level. I have also checked the motor and transmission mounts. No issues. May car has 50K miles and has been VERY well maintained.
No mods, the car is stock. The temp today was in the low 70's the car was running at normal temps.
Mopar Day is this weekend at the local track and I was going to race but not till get this sorted out. It would really SUCK to miss my first set of races this year....
Thanks in advance for your feedback.
