Default Prioritizing mods...

Hiyall! SLK32 AMG stock.

So I'm looking to mod my 32. I've been reading this and other forums and have gotten a lot of good info. Now I'm looking to create a "road map" to awesomeness! sheesh

I want to prioritize my mods using the following criteria:
  1. Bang for the buck (HP per $)
  2. Bolt-on w/ little to no additional mods (competent shade tree mechanic stuff)
  3. Bad a$$ coefficient (I'd rather be fast than look fast! But a nice exhaust note is good, too!)
  4. Reliability (SC pulley issues come to mind)
  5. Safety for the drivetrain/engine (can't afford to fry an engine)
What are y'all's opinions regarding what to do first and what other concerns I need to take into consideration?

My list (in no particular order):
  1. Dual CAI
  2. IC cooler/isolation (I already have installed a CM30)
  3. SC and/or Crank Pulley and PSK
  4. ECU Tune
I've posted a similar thread at the SLK-AMG forum, but didn't get much of a response. You folks seem to be a little more into the "mod scene". Thanks for your input...

That seems comprehensive, and even in the correct order.

Eurocharged does our tunes, and once you've bought it, they will re-flash,over the internet, anytime you add a change.
I might go for the tune right after the CAI, though.

Nice looking ride! I noticed you have a "home made" DCAI. It looks great! How did you do it and how much did it cost? Do you have a DIY write-up or plans?

Oh, boy.

Send me a PM and I can send you (by email) a Word document with all of the vendors and prices etc. Mine is an N/A and the S/C air inlet is different. You'll have to do a bit of engineering....

If you want to save a bundle for some mods get the tune before today is out! Eurocharged has a sale that ends TODAY! Remote tune cable and tune for $452.50 total! Thats quite a bit off the regular price of $734.99 ($282.49 savings)! Go here (SLK32 ) and select item 4 and 12, during checkout type in the code "george" (without the quote marks), and it'll ring up $452.50 right there. If you wait, the $282.49 bucks will not be usable for anything else. Jump on this B4 the sale ends! Remember, eurocharged tunes come with FREE reflashes!

The item 4 is just for the tuning - not the pulley as well....
Item 12 is the for the usb link to an internet enabled laptop.
If you want the 65mm pulley as well (maybe on special as well - if you try) you'll need to addd item 1.
But there is a 62mm pulley making the rounds (currently out of stock I believe) - not sure if you want to go with thtat idea though.

...takes a long time for email to get "down under" because email must be converted from clockwise to counter-clockwise...

okay - so I have registration.
But before I bite the bullet - is the EC tune really worth it?
I was gonna pay a tuner post Code3 Pulley - but of course I gotta keep paying for him...EC is one off with fee updates.
Special is still on - just checked.

Don't hold me to it but I think the remote tune is optimized based on location/climate and mods, but a tuner and dyno would probably be able to make a bit more power since they can adjust for the more specific environment you are in...

Don't hold Me to It! but I do believe that remote tunes of this nature are as effective as In person tunes. Unless You have already Changed the Physical Parameters. The computer communicating with Your car is also Polling information. These are good tunes based on what You have, not exotic tunes for radical changes. If You have a 350 small block in there then this will probably not work.

Wow.... I'm normally a big fan of buying these custom tunes. I had one done on my Hyundai Genesis Coupe a while back, that was done by a tuner while the car was on a dyno, and bought one more recently for my Cadillac CTS Coupe that works just like the Eurocharged tune (USB programming cable and software).

I guess what I'm a bit put off by is the price? Even with the $100 or so discount right now, a tune for the SRT-6 looks like it's about $640, and then it's over $500 *more* if you want the transmission control unit tuned too!

The tune I bought for my CTS included *both* ECU and TCU custom tunes, and I paid under $450 for it, total! The custom dyno tune for my Genesis Coupe was around $500 on a special group buy, but the tuner has been offering it to others for $600 ever since then. (His, too, programmed both TCU and ECU together - removing the speed limiter and making throttle control adjustments, disabling the O2 sensors so you could remove the cats without getting a CEL, etc. etc.)

I guess the Crossfire SRT6 tune costs more because the cars are so rare ... but at the same time, I can't imagine a whole lot of people are out there getting the Cadillac CTS's custom tuned either (not talking about the CTS-V here). Is this really as good a price as they get?
