Outside Temperature Display Reading Extremely High
Hi Everyone,
My SRT6 seems to be running great. The current temperature in Albuquerque is about 85 deg F. My Outside Temperature Display is reading 136 deg F.
Any advise.
Peace,
Gino

The temp is 85degrees F. in Albuquerque, but the car is in Death Valley, how's that for an answer?
Are you moving or not? that would change the temp a few degrees but not many. It does get hot under the car though, any air circulation?
I have had my temp read odd at times - particularly after washing it - but it normally reads low, not high. Mine was stuck on 70 degrees for a couple of days, so on a whim I disconnected the battery for about 30 minutes and it cleared up. You might try that.
Good luck!

The outside temp sensor is somewhere near the front fascia, not sure exactly where. It should be isolated from engine heat so the reading is always reasonably close to the ambient outside temp. If your sensor is getting hot there's a reason and you want to know.
Also please note mine started the same symptom right before the crankshaft position sensor went bad. Please investigate.
Happy motoring.

When you say, "you want to know", are you implying urgency? ... meaning do not drive the vehicle until I find out... or do you mean a sensor might be going out?

Drivers side.. lower grill.. looks about the size of a pencil..
Per the service manual there's more than just the raw sensor reading factored into the "outside temperature" that gets displayed on your dashboard.
Page 8J-71 of the '04 service manual has this to say:

To display the outside ambient air temperature requires the fol-
lowing:
• outside air temperature
• wheel speed signal
• engine run time
• engine coolant temperature
The outside ambient air temperature is determined by the out-
side ambient air temperature sensor. The temperature sensor
is installed at the front left of the vehicle under the bumper fas-
cia and is connected to the IC. The wheel speed signal,
engine run time, and engine coolant temperature are deter-
mined internally by the IC. Since the outside ambient air tem-
perature display depends on the wheel speed, engine run
time, and engine coolant temperature, temperatures (influ-
enced by the heat generated by the engine, for example) are
not updated when the vehicle is stationary or moving slowly.
• When the ignition is in the ON position and the engine
coolant temperature < 60°C (140°F), the current air tem-
perature is always stored and displayed.
• When the ignition is in the OFF position and the engine coolant temperature < 60°C (140°F), the air tem-
perature last measured is stored and displayed.
• When the ignition is in the ON position and the engine coolant temperature < 60°C (140°F), the stored air
temperature is displayed.
• At vehicle speeds of 19–60 km/h (12-37 MPH), outside air temperatures are displayed after a delay of
approximately 5 minutes.
• At vehicle speeds over 60 km/h (37 MPH), outside air temperatures are displayed after a delay of approximately 2 minutes.

I 've had the same thing happen to me. It was a simple as the sensor is was dislodged and fell behind the grill. I stuck my hand underneath the front lip and put it back in place.
Kinda weird, must be a typo, but isn't condition one and three identical? Also, the 08 manual has this info on page 8J-88
The outside temp gauge on my '06 Roadster with 11,000 miles on it reads -36F.
Since it's almost May in Florida, I'm guessing that's wrong!
Any ideas?
Thanks

Mine did that when the sensor had become unplugged. Your sensor could also be broken. It's in the lower left front grille.
