What if the electric clutch on the SC...?
What if the electric clutch on the SC...?
What if the electric clutch on the supercharger isn't working? Would it not run correctly or not run at all or would it just not have as much oomph as it should? Would a light come on?
My very new to me SRT-6 is quite perky, but perhaps not as much as I expected in comparison to my '07 Ltd. coupe. I don't meant to imply that the Ltd. is faster, but not 'too much' (a very relative term) slower.
I've not had a chance to really give the SRT-6 a major boot, but hope to over the weekend. FWIW, during the week there are 55K people working here. On the weekend/holidays there are only a few thousand total. Meaning the fairly large police force thins down, at least somewhat.

Re: What if the electric clutch on the SC...?
I always say to my friends who are in the car with me that until you hit it the car is quite civilized, drop a gear and punch it and you will see the difference. The first time my wife was in the car I overtook a couple of cars on a two line highway, the look on her face was something to see. Priceless.
Re: What if the electric clutch on the SC...?
Biba- The original intercooler pumps are prone to failure and when they go out, there is no cel or codes thrown. You will notice that you have power sometimes and other times the car feels like a dog when the intercooler pump fails. Not saying that you have a bad one or anything, just something to be aware of and could be the cause of a big drop in power. Maybe you just haven't hit the throttle hard enough yet like the other guys are saying. Being that you live in cali where it gets hot, I would recommend you get a nw intercooler isolation kit. It'll keep your intake temps down and help your car keep its power when it gets hot.

I've been assuming the intercooler is a water type and is the unit connected to the oil filter housing. If so, it is small; I can't imagine how it can be isolated; and where is the separate pump unless it is an air intercooler and is the plastic, looking somewhat like an alternator, on the left inside fender?
Aslo, I can't figure out how an intercooler goes out. Or is it 'just' the pump that goes out?
Or do I have it all wrong?

Re: What if the electric clutch on the SC...?
The unit connected to the oil filler tube is the additional OIL COOLER that the SRT6 model has.
The SC intercooler is located under the supercharger and in OEM configuration is connected into the car's radiator cooling system via hoses that also route through the intercooler pump.
This pump is located dowm under the passenger side headlight.
And yes, the pumps do go out, common problem with the SRT6.

Both come from the Chrysler Self Study Workbook called 'Crossfire Convertible and Supercharger Engine Update'. It is now out of print.

Thank you for both this insightful information.
Regarding the aux. water pump, I assume it is electric, however I saw no wires going to it. Is it best accessed by removing the overflow reservoir or underneath by removing the right lower grill? Or either...?
IF it appears as if the engine is somewhat down on power, would it make sense to start by replacing the aux. water pump?

180- nice info. how did you get your hands on that workbook lol?
biba- the pump has an electrical plug going to it to power it. the easiest way to access the pump is to take off the passenger side front wheel and under the fender is a little access door. open the door and the pump is right there. you may have to take off the splash guard under the car as well to get to the hoses on the pump. this is what I did when I replaced my pump.
