SRT6 Trouble
I have run into my first problem. 43,000 miles well cared for car--second owner. I have looked through the Forums and based on what I have read about my problem, I initiated a fix that did not work. Car starts fine. I drive it and park it and the car starts but runs extremely rough. It also smells. It will start in about an hour. The car runs great until you turn it off. Based on my readings here, I replaced the Crank Position Sensor. It did not fix the problem. It is not throwing any code. Any help??
What kind of smell? Gas, oil, exhaust? Running rough, is that like on 5 cylinders? Maybe a fouled plug, bad plug wire, or even a dead coil pack to one plug, but these items would throw a check engine light and trouble codes. If you don't have a scanner ,you can go to about any parts place an they would be more than happy to check those for you.
A couple of years ago I had the same symptoms you describe, car had 13,000 miles on it at the time. Bought a Bosch CPS, installed it and no change. Sent the RCM to tighed1 and when it came back and I reinstalled it the problem was solved. Not saying that is definitely your problem but it worked for me and yours probably needs done anyway.
Thanks for that bit of information Jeff. It seems like such a runaround crazy problem. I just took the car out and when I came back in, it was ok. The worse thing is that I can't trust it now.
Steve--It smells like unburnt gas--fumes--Not oil. If a plug was fouling, wouldn't I notice that while on the road also? No lights on the dash light up, and there was no code. Could any codes be thrown without any engine light? It does seem more like it is not getting any gas, and when you give it some throttle, either nothing happens or it just breaks out of its funk and revs a bit. I can go out in the morning and it is fine.

First thing I thought of was a fuel issue. I looked on here and saw so much talk about the CPS that I did that. But why does it run ALWAYS on first startup of the day and then fail the first time it shuts down?

Today it ran great--then died on the road, Started right up and it was rough, then smooth, then rough, then ran smooth--Limped home. Very frustrating.
So ....something's getting warm an breaking down. Have you looked at your RCM. It has issues, from the factory of bad solder joints. Search under Relay Control Module.
1) Reflow the solder on the RCM, as STeve said
2) Measure the fuel pressure repeatedly - could be you are losing pressure due to the RCM or Pump being bad.
3) Sure your intercooler pump is OK?

Ding ding ding.... Tithed1. CPS will cause a rough idle. Make sure your install of the CPS is firmly in place. Rarely does the cam sensor cause problems, but
can happen. But the fuel smell seems to make me think you need to look a little closer in the throttle body area.

Always buy a Bosch, the others seem unreliable, this goes especially for the cam shaft sensor.
Carry a spare RCM, and both of the CPS's as well. Carry to tools to change them or they will be not too much use.

Next time it happens, turn the key on *NOT START* and let the fuel pump prime. Then turn the key off, then turn it on, and then turn it off. Do this a few times to get it good and primed. Then, turn the key all the way and start it. See if it runs rough.
My first SRT did something similar with 1300 miles on it. The fuel system wouldn't hold a prime. They replaced the fuel pump assembly (under warranty) and all was well. It would also do a 'long crank' before starting, which was associated with the rough idle.
