102 Octane + tune = ?
Alright so pretty simple question here.
I would like to use race fuel which I can get at a VERY reasonable price of 5.30/Gal at about 102 Octane. I currently have a 64mm Pulley and tune from Eurocharged.
My question is if I get a new re-flashed tune from Eurocharged specifically for the higher octane fuel will I get a reasonable gain in power? I'm assuming they should be able to advance the timing a lot more.. especially in the top end of the power band which is typically where most cars get knock/pinging.
It's not a super big expense where I'd be hurting the bank so I don't mind trying it out just to see...
I couldn't get a definitive answer looking through the search both on the forum and actual google (that led to a bunch of uneducated guesses at best)
I will be contacting Eurocharged to see what they think... they are usually pretty helpful and a great company like always.
Thanks

Simple answer is no. Just raising the octane does not add any power, gas is gas. What increased octane adds is a slower burn and resistance to detonation but not any more power. It does need more advance than a lower octane.
What the higher octane does allow is either higher compression (mechanical change, or more boost from the supercharger if it is capable and can be done with a tune.
But just raising the octane does not add any power unless already having a detonation problem.

yes most tuners have a file for race fuel for this motor, those tunes have more timing built into them that can be run with higher octane. you will be committed to running high octane though until you flash back to a "pump gas" tune (93oct)
Ok. thanks for the info guys. and yeah I dont mind running straight race fuel all the time as its not crazy expensive. (at 100 Octane)
But Eurocharged did get back to me this morning and he stated that:
"With 100-102 octane fuel, I would simply add it to the existing tune and benefit from the 10-15HP increase. I can only make a new tune for fuels that are 109 or higher."
I am guessing that this is due to reliability? at 109 Octane you can safely max out how much timing you want for this engine before you start to get diminishing returns. Too much timing you will lose power.. But, not sure otherwise.
Anyway.. 110 Octane UNLEADED race fuel runs about 13-17/Gallon Maybe I'd like to try that ONE TIME and take it to get the car dyno'd just to see the results. Otherwise that's way out of the question.
^^Also Only 91 Octane fuel here... LOVE CALIFORNIA!!!

Mix it 102 and 91 =96.5, ,, 100 and 91 = 95.5 I use 93 and 100 = 97.5 most of the time i run 93, when at the track i add the 100.
the 100 is safe for our car (unleaded) if you run leaded you will burn out you cats and may burn a valve, use the 100 unleaded mixed or not,
in fl. we have gas stations that have 100 and E-85 at the pump,, look into E-85 if you can get it ,,lots of changes to do to the car if you go to e-85 jim

E85 - We do have E85 here (a lot actually) and I have looked into that... basically what it comes down to is 30% increase in fuel. And with the stock injectors i believe the duty cycle at that point would be maxed out.. so would need to get 550cc injectors. The kits
for E85 are roughly 300$+ and there are sensor wires that are in series with each injector that connect to a module which increases the PWM single to the injectors (+25-30%). Replacing fuel lines? maybe need SL55 pump... and a re-tune. Euro charged however cannot SPECIFICALLY tune for E85 as I've been told. they can use the higher octane numbers that E85 has.
I did use some octane booster (Torco) to raise the octane of 91 (5 gallons) to 95. I DO notice a difference in power... It could just be a placebo effect, but it does feel like the motor doesn't hold back at all anymore.
Anyway thanks for the informatio
