Default Radio Antenna

Hi Everyone!

I finally got my Srt6 (Aero Blue) with 59K from Savanna GA. I drive it back home to VA (almost 600 mi) and the drive was incredibly fun and comfortable. I am looking to do some upgrades and restorations inside and out and have already compiled a list. One item I am having a hard time finding is a radio antenna. The plastic/rubber is coming apart and the antenna itself is rusted. I would like to know if you guys can recommend a place to buy one and also, a newer type of antenna? Maybe one with a smaller profiles (more aerodynamic).

Thanks in advance for any help!

This one works in every way except the electrical connections, but you CAN use the mast and the gasket, which is all you need anyway :

I bought one of those for my blue roadster. It had a bad gasket. The gasket fit was good but not perfect.

Thank you JSK and ala_xfire. I am trying this one out as it has the smallest profile:
Amazon Amazon
I have a bad mast and gasket, so I'll have to see how that goes...

Look here for a new gasket . . . https://www.ebay.com/itm/Roof-Antenna-Base-OEM-Gasket-Seal-For-Mk4-Golf-Jetta-Passat-Bora-Accessories/263307120772?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.M BE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D20140602152332%26meid%3Da2cc0d 48679a4a1c99eaa4811a5067f0%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D5 %26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D222340484656%26itm%3D2633071207 72&_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850

I bought this one recently as a replacement antenna for my #4 Crossfire roadster . . .

I've had very similar antennas on my other two Crossfire roadsters for years and really like them (but cannot find those exact ones now).

I doubt you'll get any good radio reception with that stubby antenna from Amazon. Please come back and post to let us know how it works out . . .

Hi RedDog,
I am back to report on the stubby antenna from Amazon. It receives about 30% less signal than then stock antenna. I live in the Washignton DC metro area, so the top radio stations are received with no problems. I would not recommend the antenna beyond just being smaller and looking better. That said, the stubby antenna does leave a gap between the base and the mast, so that might be a problem with rain going into the electronics that way. I will probably look for an alternative soon enough.
Best, Sergio

Is that AM or FM?

I gotta know, cause people who listen to AM are intellectuals, people who listen to FM are long-haired, maggot infested, dope smoking, rock and roll throwbacks to the 60's.

FM :-( I rarely listen to AM so I didn't test that, sorry! honestly, I stream my music via Spotify and other similar apps for webcasting news, podcasts, etc. So, I've gone ahead and purchased this guy:
Amazon Amazon
It is the perfect size since it doesn't hit the automatic shifter. I found an empty radio station and the sound connects perfectly via the little antenna. So this lower profile antenna works well for my radio usage.

This is an old thread I know but anyone looking for a antenna seal for the Crossfire Roadster should buy the X8R for the vw polo/beetle etc
This fits about as good as its possible to get ,no gaps around the base and follows the contour of the wing ,no silicon needed by I just used a bit of 3M liquid weather seal around the metal thread of the base as
it enters the wing just to make sure I get no water leaks into the boot

I bought this one on fleabay. It comes with a 9 inch antenna. The original is 16 inch which you can also get on fleabay.

Looks good, my mast was ok so I just went with the seal. Most instructions to fit say cut the old seal away and fit the new seal over the top
dont bother its a load of agro and never fits well, do yourself a favour and remove the trim off of the inside of the boot its only 5 or so trim clips
and a screw and remove the rear light, its held on by 3 8mm nuts and pull the
connection off the back of the light, you have then got access to the underneath of the antenna ,you will then need a 22mm socket to
remove the captive nut under the wing, the best socket to use is one designed to remove a lambda sensor as it has a slit in it for the wiring to
fit in, undo the nut pull the wiring through the nut and remove through the wing, its just a matter of fitting the seal and replacing being careful
not to cross thread the the nut on the threaded piece of the base, and refit the light, again careful when you remove and reinstall the light, the
nuts are easy to drop and they under up behind the roof pump, possible to get back dependant on the size of your hands otherwise its just the
removal of the pump to retrieve again just 3 nuts, I will take a few pictures of it installed later when it gets light here in the UK.
If you are still worried about water ingress get yourself some 3M weather sealant, and put a drop under the seal befor you fit to the wing.
