1/4 mile iat temps
1/4 mile iat temps
Having issues with iat temps since 2018, same year I put speeddriven IC,I have split cooling, new VRP pump, plm HX. No air bubbles at all.
20c ambient temps got to 77c and end of 1/4mile have just a 65mm. Driving around temps are perfect they skyrocket when I go wot. I do have stock exhaust, anyone think cats clogged causeing higher temps. I do not get any codes just p0111 and yes change iat temps sensor with factory one from Benz.
any help I’m considering buying oem IC. I have needswing dcai

Re: 1/4 mile iat temps
Hi,
check the hose between radiator outlet and pump inlet. the vrp pump (aka pierburg cwa 100) is one of the biggest pump available. i am pretty sure the cwa 100 creates a big vacuum and the hose may contracts/collapses and flow performance will hurt. seen on an e55 amg with a cwa 100.. best would be as much as a steel line between radiator and pump. that´s why i would prefere two cwa 50 pumps (one before and one after the radiator/s) instead of one single big pump after the radiator. btw big pumps don`t like inlet restrictions. i guess you´re running the stock amg radiator?
berlin germany.

I have 178 + 69 stacked pulley, speedreeven IC, Eurocharged ECU map.
For lowering AIT, I have CAI & Supercooler & IC Isolation kit & Bosch pump from Needswings and Phenolic spacer.
I have no issue with these now.
(No issue means not over 90 C)
In my case, radiator for intercooler was blocked with impurity as below picture.
This is phenolic spacer, blocking heat from engine.

Re: 1/4 mile iat temps
I got the used spacer from c32amg owner on e-bay.
I qoute his explanation fyi.
Re: 1/4 mile iat temps
first of all, you r going 2 get higher temps with stacked pulleys,, how big is your heat exchanger? if no 24 x24 or close to that get the needswings supercooler. did u add any extra water-- about 1 gal tank somewhere ( my first v8 ,,put batt in trunk made 2 1/2 gal tank where batt was. also had killer chiller iat's at end of 1/4 was 117F,, yours is 170F,, the v8 i have now has about 1 gal tank, needswing super cooler 3" exhaust no cats through srt6 muffler , tune, upper pulley,, my new iat with this car at end of 1/4 mile is 138f here is pic of water tank for my now v8 crossfire 138F degrees... I also think your pump is too big the water is going through the IC so fast it does not have time to cool,, i had used a pump from a supercharged f150 ford and my car heated up so i went to the #10 pump from needswings and it cooled down. now it is 138 to 145 in south Fl heat.

Re: 1/4 mile iat temps
I have SCAI, Supercooler, IC isolation kit and IC pump(Rob recommended) from needswings with Stacked(178+69) and eurocharged tune.
I don't have another galon of tank and killer chiller kit compared with you for AIT i think.
Did you have IC isolation kit and another gallon is only connected to IC?
Killer chiller kit has tremendous effect?
I think these would be my remain task for AIT.

Did you have IC isolation kit and another gallon is only connected to IC? ------------yes------- some poeple used a BMW powersteering reservoir i think it holds 1 1/2 qts and gives u a higher fill location.
what i have now is isolated ,, sc from engine u used kit,, i built mine that way and added about 1 gal of water to it . no killer chiller on this car,,, \K C on other car Iat before burn out 49,, after burn out 55 to 60 at end 1/4 mile 117 by the time i got back to the pits it was 45 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit ,, Oh I was using stacked pulleys on my V8 180 and 66

Re: 1/4 mile iat temps
there are two reasons the Iat's are high,, 1. your pump is too fast,, water go by the heat exchanger so fast it does not have time to cool the water. i don't think this is your problem
2 your pump is not turning on soon enough, and when it does turn on the water is already too hot , i forgot to tell you on both my V8's the pump is rewired to run all the time ..with all you have done i think you could rewire your IC pump to run all the time.. your iat's will be cooler.

Re: 1/4 mile iat temps
Got a buddy in Canada had the same issues with high IATs he finally took out the speed driven intercooler as did i years ago I can put you in contact with him as well trust me its your intercooler I am many others experienced the same thing with speed driven intercoolers I went back with a OEM.
