I went the larger crank pulley route, so no real world experience with aftermarket SC pulley but the OEM pulley will have issues eventually. I've replaced (upgraded) a worn out OEM bearing in the stock pulley and noticed some play in rivets. I keep a spare bearing and pulley on standby because if you mod your car, things happen.

How do you know it is the original pulley? Are you the original owner? Also, how many miles on the car?
It is making the most horrible metallic / mechanical clanking sound. Like forks in a blender.
I was wondering if someone could help me identify what pulley this is.
The car has a custom tune on it, which I don't want to re-do, so I'm looking for a similar (but better) replacement. I'm guessing it is a Eurocharged unit?
In case it is not 100% clear, your pulley has had a catastrophic failure, so DON'T run it for even 1 second longer. It is in full "weed-wacker" mode.,
It looks (based on the pictures presented) that the scattershield did its job (by containing the broken spring). Now, not only do you have whatever is left of the spring flopping around, you likely also have your pressure-plate off-center (as it requires ALL 3 springs to hold it centered) and it may now be rubbing on the input shaft of your supercharger.
The damage to the front of the scattershield (approx 10 o'clock as viewed from the front) was caused by the spring (did you run it for awhile after it broke?). The missing carriage bolt (secures scattershield to support bracket) may have been traumatized by being hit from the underside repeatedly, or just may have given up when the spring tried to make the shield egg-shaped (by repeatedly whacking the shield at the end of the belt/pulley relief at the 10 o'clock position ... at 5-20,000 beats per minute).
Glad it was not worse (though you still should inspect ALL surrounding components for damage).
The possibility exists that that the shield can be straightened-out/reused (send me a note if you would like some help with that).

you really think I would have posted it three times to the same thread..... sorry to enlighten you, but I didn't intentionally.
I would rather not get into in how unimportant I am.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention RONMAN.

So damage summary:
- 1 small rad hose (right next to the pulley)
- 1 EuroTRASH pulley that is an utter piece of junk. The question is not will it fail, but when will it fail. It went full weed wacker mode but the scatter guard did it's job!
Believe it or not, and it is hard to see from the picture, but the pulley also split in half between the ribs.
Replaced with a rebuilt oem pulley from Needswings.
Any questions?

No questions, just an observation... YOU GOT REAL LUCKY!
I understand that you sell scatter shields. Is that correct? If so, what is the cost?
Thanks, Dave
Hi Dave,
Yes, I designed and have been selling the scattershields for the M112k and M113k. Unfortunately, I sold out of my current stock recently and can't say when I might have more available. My cost to produce these has gone up dramatically (Thanks JB) AND both versions have been copied in lower quality form (selling for prices I can't compete with), so I am not compelled to tie up a lot of capital (I have to make a 2 year supply to keep the costs reasonable) on a product that I make next to nothing on.
However, IF you inspect your supercharger pulley regularly (and you know what to look for), you will likely be fine without the shield. Here is link to a post I made on an M113k forum covering the inspection process (and includes pictures of pulleys that are in "eminent" failure condition). https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...ml#post7007207
Thanks. Sorry to hear that you are unable to continue to supply these. I hear you one the JB, let's go Brandon!! I'll check out the link you provided.
Last summer the aluminum 64MM pulley, that came with my car when I bought it, failed. Luckily minor damage only, so I was lucky. I just ordered a 64MM IBF pulley from the fellow in Poland. I've seen good reports on the quality, but I will be sure to keep and eye on it. I have only driven the car about 1000 miles per year so far (total miles just a hair over 15000) so I would think inspecting it once/twice a year would be plenty. Thanks again for getting back to me. Dave

I have heard good things about the pulleys from Poland (getting steel or alum?).
If you inspect your pulley twice every 1000 miles (roughly every other tank of gas), I would think that you should be plenty safe.
Happy motoring (and give me a shout if you ever want to add paddle shifters),
Chris
