I’m just starting my swap and look forward to studying your aproach. My engine is from a 2006 clk55 AMG. I wanted an NA V8. I’m sure most of your work (95) percent should be the same.

The N/A is much simpler. You can even get away with not relocating the radiator at all. We have built them both ways. These fans work great, even in Florida heat as pusher fans: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/DER-16925 They wire right into the stock fan controller, and run without issue. There is a brushless version that would be better (but more expensive) that would eliminate the stock fan controller, and allow the ECU to run them directly.

I'm learning that this isn't such a bad swap. i also learned that I can use the existing flywheel and use a SLK350 clutch for the amount of torque since I'm no planning on tunning it up.

here's the end result; make the 55AMG running stand alone on the CLK (enter josh from the mercedes swap shop, idealy keep the obd 2 for blue tooth readings temps/rpm/speed/pressure/fuel. mate the engine to the crossfire, strip it down to the bare minimum to be able to operate, at that point, it wil be chassis swapped.

i don't want t clog up this thread, so I'll continue on mine

thank you

Time to close a chapter. Today James & Caitlin came up and took our V8 Crossfire to go live closer to the shore and enjoy some cruising down by the beaches. The car will be in excellent hands, but it will pop in at our shop from time to time for maintenance. This 6-year journey has been a fun one, and has opened the door to so many friendships and great conversations. Everything I set out to do with this car and more has been accomplished, and it is the direct inspiration for the next Crossfire project, which we hope is a running/driving car sometime later this year. A hearty "Thank You!", to all of you who followed, liked and commented on this thread! Follow the M156 Into a Crossfire thread for the next adventure!
Waiting next to go to its new home, parked next to the Crossfires eventual successor, the R190 AMG GT.

Neil, your sentence " A hearty "Thank You!", to all of you who followed, liked and commented on this thread! ", it was a HUGE pleasure reading your project Crossfire. I want to thank YOU! for the very well documented project here in the forum. Oh, and YES, I will follow your next project as well. I like to see the innards of anything and everything (with limits, of course). It has something to do with curiosity and facination. Awesome!

Well, you're going to really enjoy the next one, being an 08 MG coupe, like yours!

That was a great build and while I didn't comment, I read with fascination!

I noodled on buying it, but I knew there was very little chance of getting approval from the family CFO!

It was expensive, but truly less than what it would have cost to replicate, and that's not factoring labor.

Neil, I would not have been the one quibbling about the value!

Just a general comment. Looks like a few others are building their own M113K Crossfire, and I would expect more of them to arrive on the market in the coming years.

Part of the reason I would have opposition is that a year and a half ago I purchased a 2005 SL55 .

The M113K motor is a monster...I would've loved to see what it feels like in chassis that is 1,000 lbs lighter!

NEIL As you know i have had 3 V8 Supercharged and 3 SRT-6's Drag raced all of them. Rudy did most of v8 1&2 #2 i also had
a hand in that build and #3V8 Matt in Miami and I Rebuilt that one. all three ran in the 10.s

Now to YOU, people do write up's short ones including myself, but no one, & I mean no one, has done a write up like this and to help so many
people to do work on there on swap. not just the swap but the transmission and all the plumbing that no one thinks of.
as the owner of the very second ever V8 swap I know what you had to learn to make this happen. and are still learning at least I am.
At 83 I can still drive a 10 second car just can't do the mechanical work any more so thank you and god bless jim

It was fun to do, and putting this blog together helps me to remember what all happened. This has been stretched out over 6 years of owning this car, and I guarantee that I have slept somewhere in there. Appreciate everyone following this along. Please do the same on the M156 build, as that one is going to be overall much more extensive, and there are some groundbreaking new items coming to that build that no one (that I am aware of) has done to a Crossfire (yet) and I hope that it will be both an inspiration and a guide on what to do and not do if you want to try the same. I am delinquent on updates over there, but will catch it up soon.

Your experience and knowledge leaves me in the dust.
But I enjoy reading about your updated rides.
I don't comment much (like most I guess] but just wanted you to know that there are many of us that follow you and cheer on your creations.
Keep it up please!
Thanks for sharing so much!
Jim

Another voice to say THANK YOU for taking the time to write all of this up. Not just the writing, but taking all the pics, and then putting them into the correct post is a chore in itself.
I have enjoyed reading and re-reading this thread, and now looking forward to reading more about the M156 project as it moves forward.
I hope to one day own a V8 Crossfire.

Scott

@Scott M right down the road from you in Sierra Vista, DJ Tighe has one of the only turbocharged Crossfires on the planet, and it is in overall good shape. I went to look at it about a year ago, and have really wanted to buy it, but logistics to Florida adds enough to it that I can't justify it. I'm not saying it would be exactly like a V8, but it would sure be unique!
