How to remove tensioner pulley for PSK install?
Hi all,
Bought a PSK from needswings, and true to previous experiences, the instructions are frakkin vague.
Here we go:
1. remove engine cover
2. loosen tensioner to release belt (e-10 torx socket)
3. remove belt
4. remove bracket holding pulley #9
5. remove pulley #9
6. replace pulley #3
7. install new belt loosely
Anyway, I know it's the tensioner pulley, but how the hell do I remove the thing? Using a socket only causes it to pivot (thus loosening belt tension), but does nothing to actually remove the pulley itself.
I did a search and came across someone who had the same problem... but he never really said what he did to do it. I only see a few pictures.
Some help would be appreciated. Thanks!

let me say first that being sarcastic wont win any points here. if you have a problem ask the question and move on. i had the first c3 psk built and honestly any high schooler can figure it out.
that being said remove the fan. this will make your life 10 times easier to work on anything on the front of the engine. 2 clips 1 plug and pull it out. now look at the tensioner , theres a nut on the front of the pulley. remove the nut and remove the pulley. not that hard bro!

Have you downloaded the Crossfire service manual yet? If not, you need to so you will have it, and the parts manual, for future reference. The service manual has the diagram of the belt on the pulley's, numbers on the pulleys and a chart to show which is called what.

if you looked at the tensioner you will see that there is a nut on the E10 bolt that holds the tensioner pulley on. Unscrew it and the pulley comes right off......
The pulley saver kit really is a simple install...

let me advise you to install the belt BEFORE tightening the new bracket and bushings. once the braket is mounted you wont be able to get the belt on and have to remove everything to install the belt. install the lower new pulley, belt (just hang it on the pulley) then the upper pulley and braket. you will thank me later!
Thanks guys, got it. When I first looked at it I used a 16mm socket to attempt to loosen the bolt but it wouldn't come off even with the tensioner locked out. Saw Krazys response, applied additonal elbow grease and got it.
Apologies for resorting to sarcasm, I get easily annoyed when something simple like, "use a 16mm socket to loosen the bolt on the front" could be said instead of "replace the pulley". A few extra words go a long away.
Thanks again.

My PSK is, I just don't drive enough to worry about it...but, I will do this sometime...down the road...I have the parts, just haven't done it. With the weather finally shaping up a bit, I am getting back into the mood to work again. What a winter....or I may just be getting old...another month, I have to give Rob a call an order all the parts for gauges. It's never easy when you are having so much fun modding...it's hard to be patient. But, paying as I go has worked to keep the stress down...lol....

Follow up:
Finished the install on Sunday after the helpful suggestions... the tensioner pulley was the only snag. The PSK is really nice and I can tell the belt wraps around the pulley a lot more than it used to.
I also had the bearing replaced in the C3... problem SOLVED. No more metal grinding noise, everything sounds very smooth.
Special thanks to krazy, his suggestions were spot on for the bearing and PSK.

Just finished the PSK install to clean up a noisy idler pulley and WOW..she is so much quieter and smoother now
I might be imagining it, but the torque feels a little better too. Here's a couple pics to clarify what the initial post above was referring to on the tensioner: just hold the torx screw in place while you loosen the nut holding the pulley. The pic of the emissions tube shows the screw you need to undo to give play in the tubing in order to slide the belt off the SC pulley. Did anyone find that the screw included to hold the tubing clamp in place was dangerously close to the belt once tightened down on the bracket?
