Default Replace the Crankshaft Position Sensor now??

While at a red light on one of our hottest days thus far the car (in neutral) the engine just shut off. No sputtering. I have never encountered this before.

Having researched this forum. I assume that it is the Crankshaft Position Sensor. My question is: Should I just replace the Crankshaft Position Sensor now given the parts low cost and the ease of replacement? I am only assuming this is the issue at this point.

Odds are in favor of the crank position sensor or the relay control module. Mine did throw a cel code when it shut down and restarted about 10 minutes later. It got me to work after that, out at lunch, and down to the video kiosk after work where it finally went belly up. I did have a re occurring 02 sensor code that would pop up about every two weeks that has yet to reappear now three months later.

Maybe for the CPS. Some have gotten codes, some not.
The RCM does not throw a code for the no start issue but may for the Air Pump.

Might as well do it now before your engine dies and refuses to start at all.

Starting last week there were three or four times I had difficulty getting my engine to start. I was also getting the P0335 code which is for the CPS. Three days ago my car died while driving and I couldn't get it to start even after waiting 45 minutes.

A CPS can be ordered from Needswings. Too bad for me I dallied about ordering one and wound up buying a sensor locally for quite a bit more. Did this because the loaner car I was driving got such poor mileage that it would have cost me more in gas waiting for the Needswings CPS to arrive.

If you buy locally, price sensors from both Chrysler and Mercedes. Mine was cheaper from Mercedes. Plus, I had the satisfaction of pulling into the lot and parking an almost 40 year old muscle car (with all the appearance of an old car) with a wicked engine rumble next to all the new and late model Mercedes. I'm surprised I wasn't chased off the lot by pitchfork wielding employees.

The Mercedes part number for the SRT is 003-153-28-28, don't know if the standard Crossfire uses the same sensor though.

Does the engine turn over (crank) or do nothing?

So what's a dealer price on one of these? Might be worth a few phone calls to parts stores..find one offering lifetime warranty and then spend the 40-45 bucks on ebay for the bosch as a backup travel companion. You should be able to have a new one in the car and a new backup for around $120 at most.

Here in San Diego the local Chrysler dealer wanted $170 for one while the Mercedes was $150. The parts guy at Mercedes gave me a discount so mine was still $150 after taxes. Needswings is $70 something so figure $80 after shipping costs. I'm going to get a spare from Needswings some fine day.

I replaced the CPS but I am still having cranking problems. Could it possibly be the relay control module? I need help and my mechanic needs help. I have an 04 Crossfire.

If the engine spins, your rcm is working. Bosch brand CPS I hope.. Has he checked fuel pressure? Any cel codes showing? When my cps became the issue (04 model) I hooked up my OBD scanner and had the cps code so I knew why it wasn't starting.

I purchase one from Advanced Auto (non Bosch) as mine went belly up in a parking lot.. but the Bosch takes daily road trips with me just behind the seat . If I recall correctly a couple members have experienced non working "new" ones from off brands.
Hope we help get you fixed up..!
