BEGi Turbo Kit information/discussion thread
Not trying to be difficult here, but BJames, if $200 makes a difference, how were you going to pay for the rest of the kit? Sounds like if he came knocking for your money you may not be able to pay the piper, ironic.
I am in no way, shape, or form trying to call out your finances, just going from what you have mentioned, although I think I am already off your Xmas list....

I have been more than patient with this builder, but the steel pipes finished me off. Would you accept them for your car? I don't see any difference in me requesting my deposit back than the guys on the Header thread. I will leave you on the Christmas list for now.

So you really think they should have been using stainless steel or aluminum for prototype work? I'll wait and yell fowl ..(Thanksgiving humor.. not a typo)..when they declare the kit done and it has steel pipes.
these are excerpts:
I bought a turbo kit a few years ago. For a few different reasons I am only just now getting around to actually installing it. I have noticed that a few of the intercooler plumbing tubes (welded steel tubes) have developed a coating of surface rust inside them where they are not powdercoated. They haven't been exposed to direct moisture of course, it is mainly superficial rust.
But, I am a little concerned about little bits of oxidation breaking off and getting pulled into the intake. What is the best course of action for this? I have to assume that even in normal use they would get some corrosion built up from the humidity in the intake air. Is this not a big deal? I have to assume that having them powdercoated inside would lead to even bigger problems when it flaked off, so what is the right answer here? Just sand the corrosion out inside and install them?
"I doubt there is any form of paint or coating particles that could damage the engine. Even chrome plating would burn up and dissappear.
Some of these particles could cause corrosion to the turbo compressor wheel. I'd urge your attention be focused on tubes into the turbo.
Good craftsmanship and pride in a nice job should guide your efforts, but don't worry about the motor, it will be okay."

"I would expect some small particles to get through an IC. But, unless the particles are silicon, or similar in nature, the junk will burn up and blow on through.
Racing days moons ago, we virtually always found scratches in the intake from foreign particles. Very often, small dents in pistons and heads from rocks, none of which ever damaged the sealing of the chamber. It was startling, indeed, to discover the amount of crap an engine can ingest and not be hurt.
Now, after all that, it still remains best that nothing goes thru the motor but air and fuel, and maybe some water vapor. "

So as you can see, I am amazed that our little pistons and rings have not just burned up and blown on through.

Do I like the idea, no... no more than not reinforcing the sway bar brackets from the factory..
Am I going to sell the car before mine have a chance to break.. nope.. not a deal breaker on ownership..
so lets get backon topic , does this mean we are outrageously close to a turbo? i will drop 4 grand for that, especially on impulse!... i dont know why... but i would.
Guess Steph didn't say how long after Turkey Day huh...
Wow nice to see the lack of progress on a promise from the guy who was reported to have "written the book" on turbo's can cause members to take it out on each other.
Good luck for those still waiting.
Good luck for those still waiting.
Well I hope he's as understanding and patient as we have been if the original purchasers don't have the cash still laying around in a paper sack with "Turbo Funds" written on it..
No Sir, I apologize. I was not trying to be Dic*ish I just thought It humorous that of the 1,000's of questions posed, Delivery would be Your concern.
NO! No one knows how close The Kit is. Not even the people making It evidently. I'm still in but I have no date for expecting to Buy a made kit. But Someday.........................

As long as tomorrow goes smoothly I'm out on this. I will leave them my 200 as the intention was good, but now I'm going to focus on a 3.7L supercharged AMG limited
..... Good luck to all still waiting and hopefully some good ends up out of all this.
Good luck, have fun
Ahhh.. to be 21 again..

My New Project - MBWorld.org Forums 3.7 build
Lol definately won't be a quick build. I'm figuring a year or two if everything goes smoothly, but unlike BEGi, NO guarentees lol.

So I dynoed my car this morning. It gives me a base line for when I turbo it. Gathering bits and pieces for the Turbo. Making a game plan and schedule. Hope to be starting the turbo in the New Year with Stainless steel and Aluminum. Dyno sheets are in my album feel free to take a look and comments welcome.
