I think the dealer lied to me.
The dealership promised me they'd change the oil prior to me picking up the Crossfire last month, since I was going to be driving it a thousand miles home. The car only had 3,900 miles on it when I picked it up.
Today I went ahead an changed the oil and I'm glad I did. From appearances I don't believe the oil was recently changed. However, I don't believe the oil filter is stock, so at least the oil has been changed before.
Take a look at the filter and let me know if you think it was changed 2k miles ago.

Probably not changed 2000 miles ago IMO
Also that's a cheap paper filter anyway and you should replace it with the fleece filter

Did you look at the oil when you picked the car up?
This car was mothballed and he put some in the oil?
Not a pretty sight, cheap filters look like they are just about ready to fall apart after just a few miles.
Just like the old joke.
How do you know when a dealer is lying? ............... his lips a moving.

My thoughts exactly. Amazes me how often I have to do the reset because they either forgot (doubtful) or didn't know how likely.
While draining the oil I took a sample for Blackstone labs, which has become somewhat commonplace for my cars - especially the ones that are raced.
The shinny dots all over the filter that looks like metal flakes is just a reflection of the camera's flash on the wet oil. The funky stuff at the ends of the filter appears to be the fibers of the filter separating.
WTH is "mothballed oil"? You didn't mean it literally, did you?

"Yeah we'll change the oil" says the used car salesman.
Get that stuff out of there and do it yourself so you know it's done right. Let us know what you find out from the test. You might want to change it again after a short time just to give it a good "flush".

What do you think?
Those cheap ***** filters are dangerous, but that's what they put in at the cheap lube gyp joints.

I'd agree that the fibres of the filter are the source of the weird sandlike particles. On the positive side, I believe the golden colour of the filter's oil residue is a good sign of "fresher" oil. It is not even close to being on the black side. I'd get a sample tested for sure. I'd think the oil did get changed by the dealer but with what? Regardless, I'd do it again immediately. I'd too, recommend the fleece filter.
If you get a Blackstone sample, I'd Be happy to let you Compare with my test results (at approximately 50,000 miles).

Everyone here is telling this guy to get the fleece filter but no one is giving him the part number so here it is....Purolator 25277. Paid $11.99 at Pep Boys two weeks ago.
i would think they most likely did change the oil. did they drop in 9 qts of mobiil 1 full synthetic? doubtful. more likely they filled it with the same oil they have in 55 gal. drums that they use on most every other car they service. pure dino bulk supply oil. add a paper filter and you get this mess. nothing to worry about. swap it out and drive it.
