Oil Leak!!!
I'm looking to purchas a 2004-2005 crossfire. I took a look at 2 for sale yesterday both coupes. THEY BOTH HAD MINOR OIL LEAKS!!! What the heck??? Is this common for this type of car? I really want one but so far I'm thinking they're prone to this type of issue.
Can any owner chime in and tell me if they've had oil issues? One mechanic told me there are 2 seperate areas oil comes from top and bottom. The top isn't an issue but if it's coming from bottom then just walk away.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

If it's the top, then it's either the little breather covers on top of each valve cover, no big deal - easily remedied with RTV.
It could also be the valve covers themselves, in which case a new set of gaskets will do the trick.
If it's the bottom, then your mechanic is probably correct, except don't walk : RUN !

I have had two Crossfires and neither of them leaked, go figure.
If these two Crossfires had worn tires would you conclude that all Crossfires had worn tires?
much appreciated alaxfire! Sweet ride btw! There are some really good deals out there (especially trough private sales) but the owners I'm coming across just drove the damn things as if it's a Honda thinking the car would just "take care of itself".
Sometimes the oil sending unit leaks at bottom of engine about 150 $ parts ,labor ? do have to remove 2 piece oil pan . Did the mech remove splash cover to see bottom of engine

If I assumed all had oil leaks based on the first and only 2 that I have come across then I would not have asked for owners to chime in with their experiences on this subject. I wouldn't have bothered asking and would have just assumed that ALL do leak oil and just written off all of them as problematic.
I also wouldn't assume that someone that claims to be a senior member would actually respect their title enough to be helpful instead of posting accusations to someone just trying to learn more about a car. Afterall... I thought this forum was for sharing and exchanging helpful information.
Perhaps "senior" only refers to your age.
Happy Easter just the same!
It's a beautiful car and I was always taught to take care of the car if you expect it to take care of you.
Thanks to all helpful responses. The owner said she would take the car to the mechanic for a thorough analysis and have him fix the issues. Hopefully it's nothing major.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

As far as everybody else and their comments, all great places to look/check/have checked. The breather covers on these are known to leak (mine did) and is a simple cheap repair. The transmission connector on automatic equipped cars is also a very prone problem. Thats pretty much it as far as the 'normal problem spots' on the non-supercharged 3.2.
MoparFreak69, I see you deleted the post where you were wrong today.
Just in case you forgot, here's what your post said, and my correction to your it.

The top part has a tab that slots into the sides so you need to lift the center of the top piece a bit to see and slide the tabs out without breaking anything. I took mine off a while ago to paint them, didn't prep very well so I get to do it again, probably going with a carbon fiber wrap.
He said internal.

Hmm.. comments like that.. don't look for notice when it's reading of the will time...
I don't think he's taken me out yet..
Last week lost most of my transmission fluid because of large leak. Mercedes mechanic was very familiar with this problem due to the at plug adapter. He replaced the adapter, new filter and gasket and 5 ltr. of trans fluid at $22 a pop. He also fixed the small oil leak I had which is also very common in xfires. After cleaning and resealing valve covers, replacing gaskets & replacing breather hoses. $900 later my roadster in ready for spring!!
